notes from the president
The Fall rush is definitely on, I hope this Newscapes finds everyone enjoying good health and business. Hot dry weather has returned for September into October, creating challenges for newly installed landscapes and lawns which needed more watering as a mild drought sets in. Our last member meeting at Mill Creek was another excellent meeting and the food was great. The rain held off until the tours were done. Actually, this is last time I can recall that we had rain. The meeting had an in depth tour of the facilities which were impeccably clean and organized. The event included a presentation of the new upcoming plants for the year, plus George and his staff had plenty of live material on hand for demonstration. When you see George or any of his super staff, be sure to thank them personally for supporting CLA. If you missed or just want to review the new plant presentation, call Mill Creek and they will email it to you. We had good attendance to visit and network with several CLA members we have not seen in a while. Our next member meeting is sponsored by Kurtz Brothers and will be held at Columbus State where Steve O' Neal's students will interact with CLA member firms on October 10th in the evening. A good place to scout for future talent! October is a busy month for CLA with nominations for the board being sought. New board members will be voted on during the November CLA member meeting, November 14th. Please consider being a board member. It only takes one hour per month of your time and you leave the board meeting great people and knowing much more about the Columbus Landscape environment than you came with. October 19th 3pm the Outdoor Living Tour meeting for 2017 debrief and 2018 planning for prospective participants is being held at MJ Design. See you there. This Event is developing into a signature event for Columbus Landscape Association. We are supporting the Central Ohio Cancer Support Community. We are looking for this event to be promoted by the Central Ohio Cancer Support Community making this a must do event for our members, a low cost day to show off your work to potential customers as well as getting behind a great charity event. A win – win event for promoting your company, cultivating potential customers, and social PR supporting a great public cause. Look forward to seeing everyone at Columbus State October 10th for the Member Meeting. Have a great day! Daniel Huggett Daniel Huggett
Written by Dr. Jay Hobgood, Ohio State University Summary: The average temperature for October will be above normal. Precipitation will be below normal for the month. Details: The weather pattern in October will be warm and dry to start the month. The upper level flow for the first half of October will be primarily from west to east, which will bring mild air to the state. The mild air will contribute to above normal temperatures for the month. A series of large high pressure systems will move across the Great Lakes. The high pressure systems will bring drier air and they will block a flow of moist air from the south. The pattern could shift in the middle of the month and several storms could bring rain to Ohio. Even with the storms many places will receive below normal rainfall for the month.
