Dear Parents and Guardians What a busy last week of term we have had. Pantomimes, junior discos, Carols around the Christmas Tree, Boarders Christmas party, the senior production of Cyrano de Bergerac, Christmas Jumper Day and the U14 and U16 Lincoln District Basketball Tournament. A wonderful way to finish a busy term and this is reflected in the final Messenger of the calendar year, which I hope you enjoy reading. Cyrano de Bergerac is an absolute triumph, a creative masterpiece by Mrs Wafer with a stellar cast. The standard attained by all pupils is quite phenomenal and all done in such a compressed period of time in terms of arranging, creating and arranging. The commitment from all is plain to see and all audiences have been gushing and effusive after each show. If you are still to see the production, you are in for a real treat. Well done to the U14 and U16 Basketball team who both qualified for the Lincolnshire County Championship Finals in the New Year following wins over Gainsborough Academy and Branston Community College. LMS Choir have been chosen to support Collabro as part of their 51-date UK Tour at Baths Hall, Scunthorpe in February 2019. The choir is one of 52 that has been chosen nationally from a huge number of entrants. A spokesperson for the UK-based musical theatre group has said: “We have recently picked a very strong selection of accomplished Children's Choirs from around Great Britain and we look forward to meeting and working with them all. Matt, Tom, Jamie and Michael each started their journey into the profession as a member of a choir or stage school as children, so they know how important (and exciting) it is for young people to gain opportunities like this!”

Mrs Hutchinson commented: "I'm just as excited as the pupils to be chosen to sing with Collabro as part of their UK tour. It will be a great opportunity to work with professional musicians and, also, wonderful to meet the group that won Britain's Got Talent in 2014." Compassionate Minster, the school's social action group, has had a busy term planning and running a number of social action initiatives. A highlight of the term has been the hosting of a 'Generation T' tea party at the Age UK Centre in Lincoln. They also visited the Friday Bowls Group for an afternoon of indoor bowls and tea. After much coaching from Bert and the other 'professionals' the group began some games. The group really enjoyed being able to sit with members of the group and chat with them. The cakes were good and the conversation even better! Plans are being made to visit again in the New Year. As we come to the end of our first term, the House competition standings are as follows: 1. Gibson 1440 2. Nettleton 1285 3. Jackson & Learoyd 1280 So, all very tight and lots to compete for! Congratulations to the following Year 12 pupils who have been made prefects and they will now shadow the current Year 13 prefects: Alexandr, Archie, Bethany, Daniel, Dorothy, Freya, Gareth, Isobel, Jack, Jason, Jemma, Katie, Laila, Magnus, Molly, Olivia, Ray, Samuel, Sandy, Seth, Tabby and Thomas.
We look forward to supporting them in their roles as they move forward. Our Junior Ski Trip departs on Saturday to Les Deux Alpes in France. I hope all fifty of our pupils from Years 5-9 and staff have a thoroughly enjoyable time. I used Assembly on Monday to reflect upon a rich and enjoyable term whilst challenging the pupils to continue to push themselves in all that they do. I firmly believe that by being ourselves, by going about our usual business, rolling sleeves up and following our principles we will succeed inside and outside the classroom. There is spirit at LMS, real character. I see a school at ease with itself and making the most of every opportunity. The staff play a huge part in encouraging pupils to become involved and take advantage of what is available and to give anything they are doing their very best efforts. I know the pupils are very thankful for the opportunities that come their way as a result. I hope you have a wonderful festive period with family and friends. Enjoy time with loved ones at this special time of year. Thank you for all your continued support of LMS and we will look forward to seeing you in the New Year and hearing all your Christmas stories. We have come to the end of a long term and the whole school community is looking forward to a well-earned rest. The prospect of Christmas cheers us and lifts our spirits away from the cold, dark weather of the season. As Christmas draws closer, it is inevitable that our minds start to drift away from the hard work of our day-to-day school business, to the festive period itself. The range and diversity of activities over the last few weeks at Pre-Prep and Prep has been exceptional. Polished performances, beautiful singing, musical talent and success on the sports field. Despite the busy, long days our pupils are always prepared to give that “little bit” extra whatever the occasion. It is incredible how resilient they are. They are certainly ready for a rest, but I dare say the Christmas excitement will keep them going a little bit longer. Finally, I am sure that you would like to join with me in thanking all of the staff for their continued tremendous hard work and commitment to the pupils of the school during the year. I take this opportunity also to thank you for your continued support as we work together to offer the very best learning opportunities and experiences for your child. Superstar by Year 3 & 4
On Wednesday 5th December, Years 3 and 4 performed their Nativity play. 'Superstar' told us the story of a young girl named Stella, who felt she was unable to sing, dance or act and would therefore not be an important part of a Nativity story. However, Stella was asked to be the star in the play, leading all of the various characters to meet the baby Jesus. Along their journey, we met the wise men and their apprentices, a very angry King Herod and his guard, the shepherds, innkeepers, a bustling crowd in the streets of Bethlehem, angels and of course Mary and Joseph in the stable with a variety of different animals. All of the children from Year 3 and 4 took part and thoroughly embraced the rehearsal process and the final performance. They sang the songs with enjoyment and beaming smiles on all of their faces, finally encouraging the audience to be the stars of their own Christmas. On Friday 7th December a group of Year 1 and 2 children visited Fosse House to do a short Christmas concert for the residents. They sang a selection of songs from the Nativity 'Behind the Stable Door' as the residents' faces lit up with delight. It was soon time for the residents to join in with the children, singing a selection of well known Christmas carols and even using percussion instruments to tap along to the beat. To see such happiness amongst the residents encapsulated what Christmas time is all about and the children were so proud to spread some Christmas cheer. They helped give each resident a Christmas present, some children delivering them to room doors for those not able to participate in the dining room. A big thank you to Miss Skelton for coordinating the visit and Mrs Nowell for playing such wonderful music to accompany the children. We are looking forward to resuming our regular visits to Fosse House in the new year. "The trip to Fosse House was fun. The old people opened their presents. We had a biscuit and blackcurrant. We enjoyed going to Fosse House - it's the best place ever! I love it when we sing!"

Chef Rob held his 2018 Christmas competition this term, open to all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. The children were asked to get in the Christmas mood and design an edible treat for Father Christmas, that he can snack on when he comes to deliver their presents (if they've been good!). ..and the winners are: Reception - Daniel, Year 1 - Annie and Year 2 - Eva . Well done to all who entered - we're sure Father Christmas would have loved all the snacks designed!

Christmas has officially arrived at the Mount. On the 1st of December boarders enjoyed their first day of advent chocolate and came together to decorate the Christmas tree. With such a large tree this year there was a struggle to place the star on the top, however, our youngest Mount boarder Nerea, was able to place the fairy on top of the smaller tree situated in the lounge.

The boarders enjoyed a day out at the Lincoln Christmas Market, made cards for their families and attended the Pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, at Lincoln's Theatre Royal!
Prep Choir's Hanukah Service
The Prep school came together to celebrate Advent and the Jewish festival of Hanukah. Year 5 led the celebration at our Lady of Lincoln Catholic Church and were supported by the Prep Choir. The readings were word perfect and helped us to reflect on the message of both. The Choir sang in Hebrew with one particular song the “Hashkiveynu” pulling at the heart strings. The Year 5 artwork was amazing as the children joined together to produce two separate montages of Advent and Hanukah. Thank-you to all the pupils involved and those pupils who came to support the event.
The Beavers got into the Christmas spirit during their final session of the year by making reindeer plant pot decorations. Hedgehog, Fox and Otter wish everyone a Merry Christmas and are looking forward the the New Year to continue working on their badges.

Fayre goers got a head start on their Christmas shopping at the FoLMS Christmas Fayre held in Pre-Prep's Damant Hall at the start on the month. The fayre featured some of the best of our local small traders alongside a showcase of the talented Prep Choir, Flute Group and Senior School pupils, who provided festive music. Children had the chance to meet with Father Christmas for a story and a chat, before going into a secret wrapping room where they got to choose a present to wrap for a friend or loved one. There was a craft room of festive activities, including decorating gingerbread (before eating it!). Older children were able to virtually fly a Red Arrow using the RAF STEM Team’s VR headsets before engaging in some intricate building projects. There were plenty of festive themed games and pocket money stalls, alongside mince pies and mulled wine on offer! Well done to everyone who won a prize in the Christmas Raffle; prizes included an afternoon Tea at Stokes Collection, an afternoon Tea at The Lincoln Hotel, a Nutritional Consultation with Erin Roberts and much more! Congratulations to everyone and thank you for playing! FoLMS Chair Sarah Buttler said of the event: "Thank you to everyone who attended the Christmas Fayre, all our fabulous helpers, traders, entertainers & to those who came, enjoyed and spent their money. Over £1000 was raised" Also, a BIG thank you to all who helped out with the Lincoln Christmas Market parking over the weekend. Over £4000 was raised! These funds will go towards supporting FoLMS and the Senior school Nepal trip next Summer!

Pre-Prep Nativities
Nursery and Reception joined together to perform in the EYFS 2018 Nativity, 'A Miracle in Town' - a traditional nativity telling the story of the birth of Jesus. Key Stage 1 children put on a wonderful production of 'Behind the Stable Door'. Well done to all children and staff involved and thank you to all who came to watch the performance for your support!
The annual 'Carols around the Christmas Tree' was hosted by the Senior School Music Department, in the Atrium of the Harper Building on Tuesday lunch this week. Accompanied by members of the orchestra and Maurice Davies, concert goers joined in with classic Christmas songs such as 'Silent Night' and 'Away in a Manger', a beautiful solo by Year 8's Georgia of 'Walking in the Air' and a finale of 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas'. Teachers and staff put on a very enthusiastic performance of 'Merry Christmas Everyone' - especially Mrs Mackender.

Preparatory choir perform at annual Lincolnshire Co-Op carol concert
On Wednesday 12th December Lincolnshire Co-operative hosted their annual carol concert at Lincoln Cathedral and the Lincoln Minster Prep School Choir performed, alongside St Hughs Catholic Primary Academy, Fosse Way Primary School, St John’s Primary Academy and The Market Rasen Band. All the pupils did such a fantastic job of representing the school in a community event. Well done to all involved! Caroline Wilkinson - Head of Music, Preparatory.
Compassionate Minster's been busy!
Compassionate Minster, the school's social action group, has had a busy term planning and running a number of social action initiatives. A highlight of the term has been the hosting of a 'Generation T' tea party at the Age UK centre in Lincoln. They visited the Friday Bowls Group for an afternoon of indoor bowls and tea! After much coaching from Bert and the other 'professionals' pupils began some games! Commenting that they have a long way to go before they are as good as the bowls group! After a few games, pupils then hosted afternoon tea. They commented: "We really enjoyed being able to sit with members of the group and chat with them. The cakes were good and the conversation even better! We are now making plans to visit again after Christmas and hope to be able to fundraise for the group. We are also having secret indoor bowls training but sshhh, don't tell them!" The group also organised the end of term Christmas Disco which was a success and helped to raise funds for future social action initiatives. Pupils enjoyed dancing to some good old cheesy classics, inter-dispersed with a House Baby Shark Dance Off and a Zorba the Greek Dance off between Mrs Mackender and Mrs Muir!
Compassionate Minster also co-ordinated the Senior school's support of the Christmas Sack appeal. After delivering an assembly, form groups responded to their requests for gifts for children and young people in Lincoln who are unlikely to receive gifts this Christmas.
"The Christmas tag appeal is a social action event, to make sure that everyone wakes up on Christmas day with a present. The school focused on getting presents for children and teenagers and we were overwhelmed with the results! On Friday the 7th December, Compassionate Minster collected all of the presents and we had a total of 40! A shout out to 7AEV who managed to collect 15 presents between only 15 people. At lunchtime the charity collected all the presents in their van and were extremely impressed by the schools efforts. A HUGE thank you to anyone who brought in a contribution, you have made someones Christmas day!" Emily R, Year 10
Christmas Sack Appeal
Newly appointed Junior Road Safety Officers get to work.
This week Year 6 pupils Aya and Grace set to work as our new Junior Road Safety Officers. They set their alarms and jumped out of bed early so they could arrive at school whilst it was still dark. They wanted to carry out a survey of all the children arriving at the Prep site to see how many were arriving with items of reflective clothing. Every year, children are injured and killed on the roads when they are not seen clearly by oncoming traffic. When school starts after the Christmas break, Grace and Aya will be launching a competition to raise awareness of this important issue. Year 6 Grace said: "We're very pleased to be helping LMS children to be safer near roads." Great work girls!

The Senior Production of Cyrano de Bergerac by Edmond Rostrand got off to a flying start on Monday, with an audience of Year 9 and 10 students enjoying a matinee performance. With an almost sold out run, this fast-moving, colourful play promises to be one of the most memorable in what is a long history of superb performances by our talented and committed students, who each year are responsible not only for the acting, but also stage management, lighting, scenic construction and artwork, publicity and Front of House. "We all wanted to pass on to Mrs Wafer and her team of students how absolutely brilliant the Senior Production was for us all, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. From the opening scene to the ending, we were drawn in to the story due to the most amazing talent on display before us - your drama students really are fantastic. The set, costumes and facilities were perfect and in particular we wanted to mention the young man playing Cyrano as he was outstanding. All in all the students are a credit to the school and I know all the hard work it has taken in the weeks leading up to show was definitely worth every minute as the play was excellent, so well done to all of them and Mrs Wafer."

Age UK Christmas Dinner Invite
Senior School pupils were delighted to have been invited to sing at the Age UK Christmas Dinner this week.
Our Director of Marketing and Communications, Gemma Price, is going on her maternity leave - ready for the arrival of her little girl at the end of January. All the best Gemma!
Mini Merry News Stories
Year 8 pupil, Georgia has been selected to sing 'Walking in the Air' from 'The Snowman' at Lincoln Cathedral. Georgia will be singing on Friday 4th January at 1.30pm, alongside a full orchestra with the film playing on the big screen. Good luck Georgia!
Both the U14's and U16's have qualified for the County Basketball tournament in the Lent term. U14's beat Gainsborough Academy 24-2 U16's beat Branston Community College 21-12 and Gainsborough Academy 17-10.
Sarah (Year 9) has been asked by Bishop Christopher to do an interview with him for the Crosslincs publication about their trip to Jerusalem, Sarah got so much from the trip it would be great for her to share this with others via the publication.

"I felt the day really helped me get a much clearer idea of what I’d like my next step in education to entail. It allowed me to really look through my options and understand what would suit me best in the Sixth Form. I did enjoy every lesson I took part in but I realised which ones would be best for me, and saw how others were the best for other students. Every lesson was engaging and gave me a chance to participate, giving me an enjoyable taster of what my next two years will be like."
Year 11 Move Up Day
"The Sixth Form open day was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and provided an insight into the expectations of a Sixth Former. Although I am still unsure of which subjects to choose for A Level it provided the opportunity to participate in a variety of both new and current subject areas, providing the valuable information needed to clarify my choices. The highlights of my day were learning about Sea Level change with Mr Osborne in Geography and my introduction to Economics with Miss Tweedale. I know that the LMS Sixth Form will support me with the next important stage of my education as well as allowing me to develop my squash game."
The Year 11 Move Up Day took place on 6th December, the day is designed to give Year 11 pupils an insight into Sixth Form lessons and to help them choose their A level / BTEC subjects.
Year 10 Gingerbread Houses
The Year 10 Food Technology class designed their own gingerbread house, constructed a 3D model as a template. They then made all the components and built their houses. Which were absolutely fantastic, all completed with confidence and a high level of focus, with the hunger to do it in such a professional manner. Carl Freckelton - Head of Food Science
