A weekly guide to Illuminate your Life illuminate
A Note from Katie
Hi everyone, I hope that you had a great weekend. We are enjoying very wintry weather. In fact, my kids got to stay home today due to blowing and drifting snow! We had a nice day warm in the house, while the wind howled outside. The power of Mother Nature will never cease to amaze me.
I am calling this week's magazine the "Happy Birthday Luminous!" edition because one year ago this week, Luminous was born. We have published and enjoyed 53 editions of Luminous in the last year. I want to offer my most sincere thank you to all of my extraordinary contributors. I am constantly in awe of their gifts and talents.
Please join me on January 9th at 10:00 AM Pacific for the "Katie Weaver Show" on 12Radio. I will be live streaming at in the 12Radio Chat Room on Facebook. Learn more about me at www.katie-weaver.com.
My Memoirs, Mostly for Me
Sometimes for you
New articles coming next week. Until then, a favorite poem from writer Mishi McCoy.
She is wild woman.
She has a fiery soul that cannot be tamed.
She has free spirit that cannot be maimed.
She moves with the wind and flows with the river.
She howls at the moon and smiles at the sun.
Just when you think she is finished, she declares, “I’ve just begun.”
Like wild flowers, she grows where she decides to push through fallow ground.
Like wild fires, she spreads with speed that can’t be drowned.
She has mystery in her blood, magic in her touch and regardless of her frame
She can be too much-wild woman.
She is not predictable, controllable nor the people pleasing kind.
That’s why she is called wild woman and can never be defined.

It’s January 2019 and it is time to present this Year’s (and January’s)“Animal Guidance”. Keep the wisdom of this animal guide in your thoughts and assimilate it into each day.
Dolphins are aquatic marine mammals and their closest living relative is the hippopotamus having diverged in evolutionary paths about 40 million years ago. Dolphin hearing has adapted for both air and water becoming extremely well developed. Producing an extensive variety of vocalizations of high-frequency clicks and whistles, these sounds can carry great distances and assists Dolphins in the ability of echolocation. Dolphins are extremely caring in nature and have proved this to humans time and time again throughout history.
Dolphin has shown up for 2019 to share its ancient wisdom with us all, asking us to find the rhythm of breathing to feed our spirit, raising our vibrations both physically and energetically. Being aware of our breathing, keeping it in a deliberate pattern opens the opportunity to be the innate creators that we are. Spread the ideas and feelings of peace and harmony this patterned breathing brings to our hearts. Dolphin is teaching us to balance our air with water; our breathing works upon our emotions in order to help navigate through their unsettled physical impact. 2019 will be like a roller coaster, having its ups and downs, sometimes at breakneck speeds. This can throw us into imbalance at a moment’s notice. Rhythmic breathing can help to regain balance and control physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Dolphin, constantly expressing her caring, is here to protect and nurture us through the difficulties that will arise in 2019, telling us to partake in friendship and contribute to the human community; remember to take care of those less fortunate than ourselves. Dolphin wants us to also remember to keep our wits about us, spread joy wherever we go, and meet the precious periods of fun in our lives. All this contributes to the balancing of our Life Force energy.
Point of importance this year is to listen intensely for changes in the sounds of nature and connect to the messages being transmitted.
Take the time to honor Yourself for who you are and who you are becoming; also honor Dolphin for her messages and guidance.

I want a relationship . . . so now what?
I have so many clients ask me about dating or relationships. And it’s one of those things that can be kind of hard to answer. When you’re single, it really does feel like the harder you try the farther away you get from meeting someone. It’s not fair – at least it doesn’t feel like it. As someone who has now been in a happy relationship for almost 11 years (trust me, they weren’t all happy – there were some really tough times in there too), here is what I’ve learned:
If you’re looking, that’s fine. If you’re looking to the exclusion of enjoying your own life, that’s not fine. What I mean by that is this; being alone is not the same as being lonely. If you’re not in a relationship and you want to be take the edge of by developing yourself. Do things that you love. Don’t just sit at home lonely, join some classes, some meetups that are centered around those things you love.
If you love art, take some classes in painting or sculpting. If you love music, take some lessons or join a choir or band. Spend time with people who have the same interests as you do. The reasons for this are many – for one, it allows you to be around people with whom you have so many things in common, which allows you to make friends. Friends can turn into relationships or introduce you to people with whom they think you may click. So, okay, there’s that.
But then there are other benefits too – you become more comfortable and well-rounded, making you someone who someone else would want to be around. When you are a whole, well-rounded person with their own interests and personality, you are much more likely to attract a whole, well-rounded person in turn. You’re not as likely to accept someone who is abusive, or who treats you poorly, or makes you chase them, etc. The bonus of this is you’re going to have higher standards for yourself, and you’ll have your own back, which leads me to my next point:
You deserve to be alone (joyfully) before you deserve to be in a shitty relationship. I’ve watched so many family members and friends stay in relationships that damage them emotionally, spiritually, and physically before they’ll leave for fear of being stuck with themselves. If you don’t like yourself well enough to boot someone out the door who treats you well, why would anyone else treat you well? They don’t, because people who care about themselves won’t accept someone who treats them poorly.
Have your own back – hold yourself to the standards that you would hold another person to. I have a little sister, who I would absolutely love to be able to make choices for. Not because she makes poor choices, but because she doesn’t know how wonderful she is and puts up with far more than I’d let her deal with. I’ve watched the same thing with my bio-mom, and a very good friend, both of whom are still in shit relationships because they’re too afraid to be alone.
It’s okay to be alone and happy. There’s nothing wrong with you if you’re happy alone. Seriously. It’s alright. It’s good, even. Truly, you should like your own company enough that somebody had better be damn special if you’re going to let them into your life.
If you’re in a relationship and the other person doesn’t treat you well, you have choices. You can either leave, have a discussion with the other person about your needs, look at your own needs and actions and see where you’re needing to make improvements. Being able to look honestly at yourself and see if you’re doing everything necessary to nourish your relationship is only something someone strong and sure of themselves will be able to do. It’s very scary. Also being able to say, “Yes, I’m doing everything I can to make this relationship a nourishing one and this other person is not. They’re not meeting my needs, and that means I’m able to leave without guilt”.
So, in short – take the time to invest enough in yourself that when someone comes along who you feel might be worth your time and energy you don’t settle. If you’re settling, you’re not only underserving yourself, but you’re also ensuring that someone who is worthwhile won’t be interested in you. Why would they? You’re already in a relationship. A good person isn’t going to ask you to change that or leave it or disrespect it by cavorting with someone else.

The world is not fair. However, you always have choice regarding how you deal with your life situation.
We all wish the world was fair, that people were honest, that we were treated well by everyone, and that hard work always resulted in strong rewards. But life is not fair. We might be challenged, lied to, misled, abused, or discarded. We are not to blame for other people’s behavior. We can however always control our response to a situation.
The book Man’s search for meaning by Victor Frankl changed my life. He wrote that humans can survive any what if they have a personal why. He wrote this after surviving three Nazi death camps during the holocaust, the most horrific situation one can imagine. In the midst of that hideous experience he found a way to mentally rise above the gruesomeness and retain a sense of dignity. If he could do that there, I can find no excuse to not choose how to respond to life’s challenges. The roadblocks that I face can never match the ghastly situation he survived.
But even with this awareness, it is sometimes very difficult to stop my emotional knee jerk of angry or righteous. It is a challenge to choose the attitude that is in my highest good, that serves me and my life. It often takes me several moments before I catch myself reacting rather than choosing. However, choosing becomes more natural when I release my expectations and focus on the present moment. The result is a sense of personal power and dignity. I am who I choose to be regardless of the world around me.
Keep calm and love everything.

Magic Monday Message
You are at a crossroads. Ahead of you lie two (or more) paths and you just can’t decide which way is the best way to go… if only there was a sure way to guarantee that you could make the best decision to create the best outcome…
You call your Mom who “just wants you to be happy sweetheart”. You spend a few hours over coffee lamenting to your best friend about your options. You make a pro and con list. You pore over articles on the web looking for some clue as to what direction you should go in and still make no progress, you still can’t decide which option is best for you. Confusion reigns. Inertia sets in.
Your ego mind presents to you with the “shoulds”: concerns, responsibilities, other people’s desires and expectations, society’s expectations. Your ego mind is filled with voices that aren’t yours; the voices that trumpet fear, resistance, perfectionism and limitation onto your awareness (hardly the recipe for successful decision making).
If you’re in this place, with the clock ticking down, take a breath, grab a notepad and roll up your sleeves. Help is at hand, in fact it is in YOUR hands.
Begin by writing down all the potential worst case scenarios you associate with your decision; you know those scary thoughts, where you end up destitute, alone and loveless, awaiting the day they find your body with half of your face eaten off by your cat Señor Purrington. By you, I actually mean me, and I’m mostly kidding. I can relate to that place because I have a monkey-mind too, and can conjure up the worst of the worst. I learned how to worry from professionals, and it took some effort to learn how to redirect my mind instead of automatically letting my thoughts go to the bad place. For the sake of this exercise, don’t hold back, really let loose and let your ego/fear mind run wild. When you’ve exhausted all of the potential disasters, thank the Debbie Downer in your head for sharing and gently send her away for some R&R.
Look at the list you have just created and make friends with all of the worst case scenarios. Write down how each one could actually be good for your life. It’s a technique I learned along the way and has provided me a lot of good insight. The trick is to feel it all, let it go and then focus on accessing our intuition. Your intuition can be the perfect guide during times like this.
When you’re finished writing, stand up, walk around the room or even take a walk outside and become aware of your surroundings. When you come back in, sit in a different spot than the one you were sitting in before. We’ve cleared your mental deck of any monkey-mind distractions (for the time being) and now the fun can begin!
Mindful practice is our next step. Find a comfortable seat and prepare to meditate. How you meditate does not have to be complicated, you can simply follow your breath. An easy meditation exercise I enjoy is to breathe in for a count of 5, hold for 3, exhale for a count of 8. The counting will give your mind something to do, because sitting silently can be a challenge for those of us who don’t often practice. A mantra, word or prayer can also be a helpful way to keep your mind occupied. One I enjoy is: “Om Namah Shivaya” (I bow to the divine self). Do 10 or more rounds or a minimum of 5 minutes. Go longer if you like, up to 15 minutes. If your attention wanders, just gently bring it back to your breath or your mantra.
When you’re finished with your meditation session you’ll notice a place of clarity and clear-headedness. This is the perfect time to access your intuition for guidance.
Voice your request for more information by asking: “What do I need to know about this decision?” or “Show me the next step for bringing my desires into my reality.” Tune into your body and become aware of the sensations you’re feeling - your ego mind typically resides in your head, and will create energy there. Your intuition will largely reside in your torso, your gut, your solar plexus area and often bring with it a sense of peace, inspiration, and joy.
A technique I use and teach frequently to access what my intuition is trying to tell me is automatic writing, or stream of consciousness writing. I hold each potential scenario in mind and then begin to write about it, unfiltered. You may find that a lot of conscious mind and surface level thoughts come through at first - keep writing. You will soon find that deeper level information is coming through and that’s your intuition at play.
Use all of your senses and imagine what each path might be like if you were to choose it. Feel, see, taste, touch, sense and experience. Notice how your body feels when you visualize each possibility. Relaxed? Restricted? Tight? Joyful? Expansive? Peaceful? Abundant? Fearful? Excited? Refreshed? Depressed? Drained? Did you get a strong sense of yes or no about each possibility from your body and your intuition? (Hint: the scenario that makes you feel the most positive is typically the path that will bring you the most happiness).
To take this a step further, (especially if you’re deciding on a new career path) you can write about your ideal day. It’s very simple: imagine that you have embarked on your new career path; what is your day like from the time you wake until the time you go to sleep? Delve into every detail that comes to mind: from what you are wearing, tasting, smelling, feeling; to who you see and speak with. What do you wear, where do you go? Allow your mind to simply run with this and do NOT edit yourself. No filters!
The work you did earlier should have calmed your mind enough to dive in, but if any skeptical thoughts creep in, do not listen. Your job is to visualize and imagine, and nothing else. Do not engage in thoughts about whether or not your dream day is possible, just write. Do nothing but let your thoughts run free.
After you have completed the writing portion come back to your body and the room that you’re in, and feel the power of possibility that you just accessed. Recognize it and remember that your intuition is enormous and guides you to taking inspired action towards living the life you most want to live. Go back and review the questions from above - what came through for you as you visualized your ideal day? What did you experience?
When I have done this exercise I have been delighted that I have met people and been in situations that I visualized. People, places and things presented themselves, in the exact manner that I wrote them in this exercise. At best you will have accessed a divine road map to the potentials in your future, and at the very least you will have given voice to your desires, which changes your energy by virtue of simply acknowledging them. When you gain clarity about what you want you can empower yourself to take inspired action towards your goals.
In truth, anything you can imagine for yourself is possible and in the words of my favorite author, Richard Bach: “You are never given a dream without also being given the power to make it true. You may have to work for it, however.”
I’d love to hear about your experiences with this, and how this works for you in your decision making process. Please share in the comments below!
As always, I’m with you on the journey.
With great Love,

brand new oracle deck:
"Kindred Spirits Energy Oracle has been in my head for a decade. I have spent hundreds of hours writing, thinking, planning, and designing the cards. The artwork is Fractal Art. Fractals are mathematical equations that create geometric forms. They are the closest visual representation to what energy looks like to me. I have been reading energy bodies, energy connections and the energy of situations all my life. Putting what I see into words and images is challenging. English does not have the words to describe what energy looks like in my head. Fractals have helped me express the way I see energy.
Goddess Sarasvati is the Hindu Goddess of knowledge, music and the arts. She is often depicted with a white lotus or wearing white, a color that represents her purity. She is an advocate of the powers of the mind. The swan appears with her as a symbol of knowledge and she is also accompanied by a peacock, herald of the arts. This extremely focused Goddess assists us with concentrating on specific artistic and scholarly projects and ventures. She is often seen carrying a book and prayer beads made out of crystals to help us in meditation. She loves musical pursuits. Call on this amazing Goddess for support with artistic, musical and scholastic efforts, for the power to concentrate and the pursuit of deeper knowledge about the Divine and creation. She is ever faithful.
