Linking People to People, and
Linking People to Christ
LINC San Antonio
On Saturday, April 1st, LINC San Antonio was pleased to host Rev. Nabil Nour for a seminar titled "Reaching Out to Muslims and Responding to Islamism". Sixty-eight people from eight congregations gathered together to hear Rev. Nour's message. Rev. Nour grew up in Nazareth, Israel. He shared his first-hand experience with Muslims and their culture with our audience. Rev. Nour addressed issues of Islamic theology and practice. He stressed that in order to reach out to Muslims with the love of Christ, a basic understanding of their culture is necessary. This falls in line exactly with the mission of LINC: Linking people to people and linking people to Christ. It is all about relationships for us. In order to build those relationships, we must observe and learn about each other in order to gain trust and respect.
Rev. Nour also discussed some of the history of Islam and the similarities and differences between Islam and Christianity. He talked about some common misconceptions that Muslims have about Christianity, just as we have misconceptions about Islam. We should approach Muslims with a loving and caring attitude and find the good in them. What is the basis that binds us together? How do we open up to them and share the news that we have? We can't look for the faults in their religion, but rather need to look for a way to build relationships through hospitality--addressing them man to man and woman to woman.
Above all, Rev. Nour stressed that we need to view Muslims as people who need to hear the Gospel. Jesus died for them, too.
Thank you to all who attended this seminar, and to all who helped make it happen. LINC provides three seminars per year. Our next seminar will be Saturday, May 6th and will cover the topic of "Church and State: Who Can/Should Our Partners Be?" These seminars are free to the attendees because we believe they promote important messages, and we do not want cost to hinder anyone from attending. However, each seminar incurs expenses. If you would like to help financially sponsor a seminar, please contact Pastor Prieto.
