LILRCNEWSLETTER
The Long Island Library Resources Council has had a very exciting winter! On December 10th we moved into our new office space within the Suffolk Cooperative Library System building in Bellport. Switching locations with Literacy Suffolk allowed both offices to get some major renovations. The new LILRC location provides the staff with private offices, a reception area, and a new conference room to host meetings. The LILRC staff would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at the SCLS for their efforts in making this move possible. We welcome all of our members to come and say hello.
Upcoming Continuing Education Highlights
Message from Tim Spindler, LILRC Executive Director We have closed another calendar year with many changes happening at LILRC. A lot has been accomplished. We moved recently to a new office space within the Suffolk Cooperative Library System and signed a long term lease. This provides us with a professional working space and confirms a location that is geographically central to Suffolk and Nassau Counties. As part of this, we have plans to offer programs in more diverse locations to reach the eastern parts of Long Island. We have also initiated a new program to provide funds for libraries to develop innovative uses of technology or assist in digitization projects. The applications for the new Technology and Innovation Grant has been opened and we look forward to ideas that member libraries will bring to enhance and improve services. We also now have an Erie Canal traveling exhibit available that can be loaned out in addition to more items for the equipment loan program. One of the new items for the equipment loan program is a set of analog converters. In 2018, we completed a lot of successful continuing education programs. We served 727 different library professionals with our continuing education programs from 176 different institutions with a total of 1,529 attendees. In 2019, we started offering free registration for our continuing education programs to members. We already have some excellent programs scheduled on using PastPerfect software for archives and part two of a workshop on creating and promulgating an employee handbook. The benefits of these changes have been recognized with new members including: This coming year we also will be launching a strategic planning process for LILRC to develop a vision for the organization driven by member needs. ~T. Spindler
