A PIECE OF
Kirby Medical Center is proud of our history, from our humble beginnings in 1941 when the Kirby Mansion was transformed into the John and Mary E. Kirby Hospital. By leaving their estate for the purpose of establishing a community hospital, John and Mary ensured the health of the community they loved would be well provided for.
In 1975, the aging, original hospital building had to be replaced.
A new John and Mary E. Kirby Hospital was built on the same site as the old hospital, and the legacy of the first hospital was carried on by utilizing bricks from the original building in the construction of the new facility.
In 2011, Kirby Medical Center acquired 108 acres of property along Interstate 72 and built a new, state-of-the-art facility on that site.
As we move forward with our expansion plans seven years later, we have honored this heritage by including this brick from the Kirby Mansion as part of our construction of the outer walls.
As part of Phase One of the expansion,
Kirby Medical Center will be adding a new Community Outreach Conference Room.
With this new space, we look forward to improving our leadership in community health education. Kirby providers and staff will be able to utilize this room to address and invite community members to discuss specific educational and health needs. Plus, this space can be used for:
• Health-related classes, activities and presentations to the general community
• Private groups to hold meetings and presentations
• Organizations that need space to plan, discuss and implement positive
changes in our community
Kirby Medical Center is excited for the additional opportunities for expanded community partnerships that this new space provides.
for your patience as we expand on our ability to provide excellent patient care.
We expect to be completed with Phases Two and Three by March 2019.
Phase One is expected to be complete by
April 30. This phase includes:
Kirby Medical Group Construction
• We are making room for more patients and providers, including
additional exam rooms, outpatient procedure space, and an
expanded oncology/infusion room for Central Illinois Cancer Care Specialists to see patients.
Therapy moving into new space
• Relocation of the Therapy Department provides more efficient space,
with a separate entrance for easier access.
• A new Therapy Garden will be constructed directly outside the windows
of the new gym.
