As you may have heard, the Career Center is making the move to proficiency-based grading. Our faculty is working diligently to align program learning targets to the 1-4 point proficiency scale that we know many of our students are already familiar with. We have created this quick brochure as a primer for families to spark conversations and answer basic questions. More information will always be en route to you as it develops!

Instructor Lisa Rader had a lot to report from the Design & Illustration Family! At top right is a photo of a recent visit from Jim Blair. Mr. Blair captured some of the most evocative images of the 20th century while working for National Geographic magazines. Student Ellen Berg designed the logo for this year's Bill Koch Nordic Ski Festival. Colton Paquette was in attendance as the event photographer. Colton was recently accepted to the School of Visual Arts in New York City. SVA's Photography programs are ranked fifth in the nation. The photo at bottom right shows Mr. Blair reviewing Colton's portfolio. Jaskaran Singh was accepted to the Filmmaking program at Champlain College. Jaskaran and classmate Claire Holloway are currently working on a new round of promotional videos for the Career Center. In other college acceptance news from D&I, Georgi Pistilli was accepted to SUNY Potsdam and Regis College. Our Engineering and Architectural Design program instructor Jake Burnham shared that Architecture alumnus Connor Collins ('13) published an article in GovernmentCIO Media & Research, which serves IT leaders and decision-makers in business and the U.S. government. At North Campus, Diesel instructor Gretchen Cotell shared photos of a visit with volunteer John Derick, pictured below in the shop at North Campus. Mr. Derick has been bringing Diesel students tractors and trucks to work on for more than 25 years and this spring was no exception! He believes it’s important to support students on their career path and said, “[I love] seeing people get into mechanics, programs like this one are great!”

State State Convention coming up in May! Can't wait!
Spring is coming! How do we know? The Garden Patch Greenhouse is preparing for the month of May when it will be selling plants and veggie starts during the school day. Plant & Animal Science and Sustainable Ag students have been busy. Coming on May 11th is our annual tag sale to benefit our students' participation in SkillsUSA competitions. The sale is held in the Natural Resources Management lab from 9am-1pm. While you're there, don't forget that Mother's Day is on the 12th and nothing says, "I <3 U Mom" like a beautiful hanging basket!
