Anna Finch is the cofounder of Real DFM, a product design and development company that helps clients take products from concept to reality. After graduating from Edinburgh University, Scotland, with a Masters in Chinese language, history and culture, she moved to Beijing, China, where she worked in the wine industry, selling and distributing wine to hotels, restaurants and bars, and learning international business skills, marketing and sales. After four years in China, Anna had an opportunity to move to California, where she went to work within the male-dominated industry of being a Land Man, working for Vintage Power and SunPower; in utility scale Oil, Gas and Solar projects; purchasing mineral rights; determining new locations; and managing multi-million dollar budgets. Three years into that phase, Anna met her future husband in Los Angeles. Brien Teasley was working as a freelancer in industrial design, and as they worked together, she uncovered a passion that lay in the more creative side of business. Together, with their combined skill sets, they decided to start their own company, filling a gap in the market by offering a true turnkey solution to innovators, entrepreneurs and businesses seeking help in bringing a product to life. DFM covers everything from conceptual design, engineering, prototyping, development and ultimately mass manufacturing. DFM moved to New Orleans two and a half years ago focusing on growing Real DFM. In addition to being a finalist in Square’s “The Brassys Awards”, DFM won the Women In Business Challenge through the Urban League in 2017, and was a finalist in The Idea Village's The Big Idea Challenge at NOEW also in 2017.

How to Become a Certified Woman-Owned Business
There are many advantages to being a woman-owned business. In addition to public corporations, local, state and federal governmental agencies also track and/or have programs for doing business with women-owned businesses. The catch to gaining access to that business – your business has to be WBE (Women Business Enterprise) certified. The process can be arduous and it is very easy to become frustrated by it. However, once you receive your certification, you’ll be glad you did. At a minimum, you must have majority ownership of your for-profit business (at least 51%). You must also hold the top executive position in the business, be responsible for its daily operations and have technical expertise in the businesses primary business activity. The good news is there are a number of national organizations that can help you through the process. Whether you choose to work with ABWA or NAWBO (they both have a local chapter), the NWBOC or the WBENC, you will be in good hands as you move through the application process.
