Reminder about the May 31, 2018 Deadline
Canyons Virtual High School
Digital Citizenship Week!
The Canyons School District is holding Digital Citizenship week during the week of February 5, 2018. Digital Citizenship is a topic of growing concern among parents and educators in this increasingly digital age. This year's theme is Blazing Digital Trails. It is important for students to understand the importance of digital citizenship and what it actually means to be a "good digital citizen." The images below are links to information about digital and online safety, and are great resources for parents and students. The next page of this newsletter shares tips for students on how to blaze their digital trails!
Remember that all work in your CVHS courses must be completed by 11:59 PM on May 31, 2018.
If you do not finish a course by the May 31st deadline you may re-register for the course, but coursework will not be saved and will not be transferred over when the 2018-2019 school year starts on June 11, 2018.
Even though the deadline for coursework to be completed is May 31, 2018 we recommend that you continue to work through your courses now.
Don't wait until the last minute to submit assignments or take a proctored final!
We have the power to build a positive influence and image through our online interactions. We can share positive things going on in our lives, leave positive comments about others posts, or start or contribute to a movement! Many colleges, universities, and employers look at social media as part of their admissions or hiring process. They want to know they are selecting the best candidate and someone who will represent them well, in every aspect. Put your best foot forward and use social media to impact people, not impress them.
Posting on Social Media
We have the power of affecting positive change through our roles as digital citizens. People often think that they have to be rich or famous to make a positive impact on the world. But guess what? Everyone can help things change for the better--even you! Think about the actions we can take online and through social media to put our best selves forward and affect positive change.
Having a Positive Online Presence
We Have the Power!
Sharing your thoughts with others on social media can be a powerful way to express yourself and your feelings. When you share on social media, it is important to remember that what you say can’t be undone. One way you can use sharing and posting in a good way is to share positive thoughts and ideas. Use words of encouragement and comment on things that provide you an opportunity to “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” -Gandhi
You have the power to make the world better by what you post online. You have the power to help someone smile. You have the power to be kind and uplifting. You have the power to help people understand who you really are. Remember anything you post online leaves a trail and can be followed. Leave a path that you would want other people to follow! Remember, you have the power to blaze your digital trail!
Why is it important to think about your “digital footprints”? Do you know that all of your actions online can be searched, copied, or shared? What sites you visit, what games you play, posts you make, emails you send, and sites you shop leave “digital footprints” that blaze a trail. These trails are permanent. That is why it is important to take a minute to think about how you use the Internet and what information you are sharing. When you are “blazing digital trails” remember to be safe, kind, and responsible.
