August 2017 Theme: Covenant Season of Kingdom Power
Inspirational Monthly Devotional
At the launch of the ministry of Jesus, He publicly declared that the Spirit of the Lord is upon Him and He had anointed Him amongst other things to set at liberty those who were oppressed by the Devil who is the arch enemy of God and all that align with God. Sensing that Jesus was sent to destroy his evil works, the devil tried to tempt and deceive Jesus just like he did to the first Adam. However, Jesus overcame him and then launched His earthly ministry by declaring that He was sent to destroy the works of the devil. He demonstrated this openly by preaching the kingdom, casting out devils, healing the sick and much more. Ultimately, He sacrificed Himself to atone for our sins by humbling Himself to the death on the cross and God then exalted Him and gave Him a name above every other name. As a result of these, He subsequently gave us the mandate (under the Great Commission) to make disciples, cast out devils, speak with new tongues, overcome demonic attacks and heal the sick IN HIS NAME. To cast out devils, the believer must first operate in the power of the Holy Spirit like Jesus did. Next there must be: discernment of demonic manifestations, the use of the Word, authoritative, refusal of intimidation and the leveraging of the power in Zion. May the Lord help us to keep tapping into the Power the Holy Spirit supplies to us to be able to cast out demons in Jesus name. Amen. Meditation: Luke 4:1-44; Mark 16:14-18; Acts 16:16-19; Matthew 8:16; Luke 4:41; Luke 11:18-19; Mark 1:39

Jesus instructed the disciples to go forth and be witnesses of His as He was being taken into heaven. However, He said they will need His power to do this effectively and that they were to go and wait in Jerusalem for the baptism of the Holy Spirit to receive this power. The scriptures record that whilst they were together praying, the Holy Spirit came upon them all as tongues of fire and they spoke with new tongues. Having promised them that in His name they will speak with new tongues amongst other things, this experience became a fulfilment of the mandate and their lives never remained the same again. Speaking in tongues after the baptism of the Holy Spirit enables believers to: manifest the sign of their faith in Christ, edify themselves, pray in the Spirit and operate the spiritual gift of tongues to profit the body. May the Lord continue to empower us as we manifest this great gift in Jesus name. Amen. Meditation: Mark 16:17; Acts 2:1-21; Romans 8:26; Jude 1:20; I Cor. 14:1-4; I Cor. 12:7-11
Jesus promised that certain signs will follow believers. Amongst these is the ability to take up serpents and/or drink deadly things and not be hurt. These figures of speech relate to the demonic attacks that will be faced by believers constantly as they go about fulfilling the great commission and how he had given them power and authority over such demonic powers. When Paul found himself post-shipwreck on the Isle of Malta with some locals, a serpent actually attacked him but Paul was quick to shake it into the fire. This action is symbolic of what we will need to be doing everytime we are attacked by the enemy. It is otherwise known as spiritual warfare. The mind is the battle ground and several times the devil our enemy seeks to attack us through our minds or flesh (i.e. our carnal desires). The bible says we must resist the devil using our shield of faith and continue to overcome him by the sword of the spirit (word of God). We must also ensure that we live according the law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus so as to remain delivered from the effects of the law of sin and death. Eitherway, we must continue to live by faith and not give up. May the Lord continue to help us overcome every demonic attack in Jesus name. Amen. Meditation: Mk 16:17-18; Acts 28:3-6; Gen. 3:1-6; Eph. 6:13-16; Heb. 10:37-39

Kingdom citizenship is what we enjoy as a people who have been redeemed through the death and resurrection of Jesus. This kingdom citizenship amongst several other things qualify us to enjoy divine healing and health. In addition, we are to minister healing to others as part of the signs that follow believers (i.e. kingdom citizens). Jesus demonstrated this throughout His earthly ministry and he subsequently commissioned us to do the same. As we celebrate another anniversary at Lifegate, we are grateful to God for the privilege of kingdom citizenship and the mission that God has given to us to Impart Abundant Life. May the Lord continue to help us to celebrate our kingdom citizenship with a missional heart in Jesus name. Amen
