During the Holiday Season we hear so much about giving thanks—especially around Thanksgiving. This is the perfect time of the year to reflect and recognize the things in your life for which you are truly thankful. There can be such a positive effect on your perspective when you look out for and pay attention to the good things going on in your life. Giving thanks in the workplace is something that can have a profound effect on people’s attitudes. Saying ‘Thank You’ is the easiest way to recognize someone’s accomplishment and willingness to get involved. Recent studies indicate that giving someone a sincere word of thanks has a positive physiological effect on the individual including the performance of that individual. On the organizational level studies indicate that organizations that give regular thanks to their employees through peer to peer and manger to employee recognition, far out perform those that don’t. The Peach State Truck Centers PRIDe program was put in place to allow employees at all levels of the organization to post positive feedback about their peers or managers pertaining to four characteristics—Pride, Respect, Integrity and Discipline. By taking advantage of the Peach State Truck Centers’ PRIDe program you can offer that word of encouragement and thanks any time you desire. We believe that an initiative like this can strengthen morale and in turn raise productivity. Everyone wants to be recognized for the good things they’re doing at work. It also feels good to bring attention to someone else’s good works every once in a while. The PRIDe program is here to help us do both. During the Holidays I want to encourage everyone to think of the things they are thankful for, at work and at home. I know that I am enormously thankful for all of you and the great work that you do each and every day for Peach State and our customers. As Ann, Tim, and I reflect on our dad’s life we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the impact he made on our lives. The good news is we all had the opportunity to share with him our gratitude before he passed away. Is there someone to whom you should offer a word of thanks or encouragement? I bet there is. Why not tell them today.

Another Record-Breaking Year for Winship 5K
For the sixth year in a row, the Winship Win the Fight 5K Walk/Run raised a record level of cancer research funding. According to Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, the event brought in more than $880,000. More than three thousand runners and walkers tackled the Peachtree Road Race qualifying course on Saturday, October 1st that started and ended on the Emory campus and wound its way through the surrounding Druid Hills-area. Peach State brought out over 50 employees and partners who participated in the race, a record number for the company who has been a part of every Winship 5K event since its founding. "We appreciate all the runners, walkers and volunteers who helped make the 6th annual Winship 5K an extraordinary success," says Walter J. Curran, Jr., MD, executive director of Winship. "The money raised will support cancer research projects at Winship and will help us to create more and more success stories in our fight against cancer." “It’s always an honor to sponsor and bring out a team for the Winship Win the Fight 5K,†added Peach State CEO Rick Reynolds. “We’ve been a part of this event since the beginning because we believe in the great work the Winship Cancer Institute does for cancer research. We always look forward to this event each and every year.†The Winship Win the Fight 5K is unique because it allows participants to direct their tax-deductible donations to benefit specific cancer research projects based on their personal interests. Donations will be accepted until November 15, 2016. For more information, go to: winship5K.emory.edu. Plans are already in the works for the 7th annual Winship Win the Fight 5K to be held in 2017.
A special thanks goes out to Jim Thompson (Sales, Norcross) who helped, yet again, with setting up the Peach State Winship team, sending out shirts, picking up race numbers and keeping people informed. Congratulations to Jim, as well, for winning his age group in the 5K event.
Well Worth the Wait:

At the beginning of June, Norcross employees started moving back to their home base after spending nearly a year away, awaiting the completion of the Peach State Truck Centers flagship store’s total renovation. The 40 year old building received a complete facelift, transforming it into a completely modern dealership, with a sleek design, contemporary furnishings and state-of-the-art technology. The new building speaks volumes about how far Peach State Truck Centers has come as an organization since starting as single Ford Trucks dealer in Norcross in the 1970’s. When everyone settled in, it was apparent that the new Norcross was well worth the wait. “With the renovation of our Norcross store we achieved our objective of creating an environment that reaffirms our vision as being the dealer and employer of choice,†said Peach State CEO Rick Reynolds. “The design of the building presents a modern look as well as creating an efficient flow for our customers and employees moving from one department to the next.†Even from the highway one can see the total transformation that Norcross has undertaken. Bright red Freightliner signs beam on either side of tower-like corner of the building. Floor to ceiling windows look out over the lot from the executive offices upstairs and bring much-needed light to the downstairs sales offices and lobby, which received over 3,000 extra square feet in the renovation. When walking through the front door one comes into a much more open space than before, looking right on to the receptionist desk and a lit up Peach State Truck Centers sign made of steel. The Parts and Service counters (with new high-efficiency racking) are easily navigable from the main lobby, as is the driver’s lounge area with wi-fi, cable and vending machines. Beautifully framed, full-color images of Freightliners, Fords and Western Stars line the walls and hallways throughout.
Renovations of Peach State's Flagship Store in Norcross Exceed Expectation
Rick Reynolds, CEO
"We achieved our objective of creating an environment that reaffirms our vision as being the dealer and employer of choice."
The upstairs Executive and Admin offices are noticeably different, too. The look and feel of the upstairs offices is more akin to a modern office building than a truck dealership. The newly added conference room boasts a 60†InFocus Mondopad that acts as a touch screen monitor, a video conferencing station, a digital whiteboard, and a Smart TV. The spacious employee lounge offers 20 different flavors for the single-serve digital coffee maker, as well as cable TV. All offices upstairs and down have been outfitted with brand new desks and furnishings that complement the building’s contemporary design. The dedicated server room with dry agent fire suppression gives employees and guests twice the wireless coverage than before. New bathrooms were added upstairs, as well as a freight elevator to help with parts storage. There are also a wide range of improvements in the shop. Eighteen feet have been added to each service bay, as well as individual awnings that extend the work space even further. The bays have all new garage doors and have also been rewired for internet coverage to allow technicians to use their laptops to aid in diagnostics. The shop received a paint job, new epoxy finish on the floor and some new tools all while the main office was being fixed up. “I think having a new environment for our great employees can be a great morale booster,†said Peach State COO Ricky Brown. "I want to thank all of our Norcross employees for their patience during all the construction. I especially want to thank the techs. They were all great sports during this time and deserve a great deal of appreciation.†“I want to express my gratitude to all employees at the Norcross location and the PDC as they carried out their responsibilities in difficult work environments during the construction,†added Rick Reynolds. “I trust they will find that the new working environment was well worth the wait.†A few more renovations will still take place in the coming months. The Norcross parking lot will be re-sealed and painted and the light body shop that sits on the back of the property will be fully renovated. Once construction is complete in the fall, Peach State Truck Centers Norcross will hold a Grand Opening celebration to cap off this long period of growth and change—more than 40 years in the making.

On June 16, just as the paint was drying on the newly renovated Norcross location, a small team of filmmakers from Nightglass Media Group showed up to begin filming the first Peach State Truck Centers video in almost 40 years. “My dad had a Peach State video made back in the 70’s that we used to have on VHS somewhere,†said Rick Reynolds. “But what we’re doing here is way beyond that in terms of production value. I haven’t seen any videos of this caliber for any of the other major Freightliner dealer groups in the country.†The Nightglass crew had already done some preliminary shooting at the Jefferson location that included shots of employees doing their jobs, as well as some aerial shots taken by state-of-the-art drones. But what was going on at Norcross in June was more akin to a movie set. There was lighting and cameras and makeup and—in a way—actors! Peach State employees Tania Muniz, Felix Gerster, Ann Trent, Karen Sneed, Greg Althardt and Rob O’Neill all got their 15 minutes of fame in front of the camera showing their passion for Peach State and welcoming new hires to the organization. The video will be shown to new hires as a part of the onboarding process. Touching on the company’s benefits, community involvement, mission statement and history, the six minute video will be a good overview of what Peach State is all about. Just about every job that happens at a Peach State location was given air time—service techs, parts and truck sales people, warehouse employees and administrative personnel all make an appearance. Nightglass Media Group, headed up by Matt Gore, were the epitome of professional as they went about putting together the video for the company. From pre-production and script work to guiding the on-screen employees and video editing, every bit of work they did was excellent. Once the On-Boarding video is finalized Nightglass will edit a version that will be shorter, more customer-focused and utilized for marketing purposes. President Rick Reynolds gives a spirited opening and closing to the clip, telling newbies of Peach State: “It’s not what we do, but how we do it.†In a way, this video says and shows it all.
VOC Assets
Listening to your customers is crucial to understanding where your business needs to go. But sometimes it’s hard to keep track of what customers are saying. At Peach State we have multiple locations in two different states, plus multiple departments at each location. That equals a lot of customers, and—if you’re trying to listen—a lot of different voices. Recently new processes were implemented at a few locations to make it easier to capture customer feedback in hopes of discovering where the company could improve. As they were getting ready for Elite Support certification at Austell, Management needed to fulfill the Voice of the Customer (VOC) and Quality Control (QC) criteria. At McDonough, Jason Wilson (CIC) had married the two together with one sheet of paper. He created a QC form with a checklist that had to be signed off by multiple employees, showing the work done had been inspected thoroughly. On the back of the form was a survey that allowed the customer to give his or her comments on the job. Austell took the McDonough form and updated it. The QC form remained virtually unchanged, but instead of a survey on the back, they included links to Austell’s Google and Yelp review sites for the customer to provide their feedback online. Having responses saved on the internet—good or bad—makes it easier to keep track of and holds management accountable to following up with the customer if there is a problem. A process was drafted for Austell employees to follow that incorporates both the QC and VOC portions of the new form. The goal of the new process (outside of fulfilling the Elite Support criteria) is not only to solicit reviews from customers so that the company can better manage its online reputation, but to also establish a standard of quality for work by having multiple people sign off on it. Immediately after new form and process were rolled out, other Peach State locations wanted to join in. To take the digital platform one step further, the IT and Marketing departments got together to develop a customer survey that could be filled out on tablet mounted at a location’s counter. The results are stored online and can be viewed as analytics reports to track the department’s progress. This initiative started with one tablet in Norcross and will be rolled out to more locations in the future. All of the data gathered from these new initiatives will create a baseline for how well Peach State does business. Once we gain an understanding of where we are, we can create a plan for the future.

David Bethune Racks Up Wins On the Diesel Truck Racing Circuit
Going to from zero to 132 mph in around six seconds in a dragster has to be a total adrenaline rush. But doing so in a pickup truck is just unheard of. Dwayne Bethune (Service, Jefferson) has been doing just this for over 10 years in his diesel engine Dodge Ram, racking up awards and prize money all along the way. On July 16 Dwayne took his super truck to LaGrange Drag Strip and came home with $750. Not a bad pay day for beating out only a couple competitors. But Dwayne has success in bigger fields, as well. On Friday nights at the world-famous NASCAR track Atlanta Motor Speedway hosts Friday Night Drags that Dwayne often competes in. When you show up to a large drag racing event with a pickup truck you start to get looks. “Part of the reason I enjoy diesel truck drag racing is because it’s something different,†says Bethune. “This is still something that’s in its infancy and I like to be one of the first guys doing it.†Also doing these weekly races at AMS can put a beating on a truck, which means Dwayne has to use his day job skills as a service technician after hours, fixing the various problems that arise from running an engine so hard. Other than fixes, Dwayne is constantly strategizing ways to make his truck lighter, helping it to compete with the smaller cars at the drag strip. Other than the competition, drag racing also has his social benefits. Dwayne often sees other Peach State employees on race nights—Hayden O’Leary, Brad Wheeler—working on their own vehicles and just hanging out on a night off. There are also opportunities to meet up with Peach State customers who do their own racing or come out as spectators, further developing a relationship, which is so important to our business. Looking ahead at his current race schedule, Dwayne feels pretty confident that he’s going to go home with the AMS Championship this year. Maybe doing so will show others that racing pickup trucks—while maybe a little different—is just as legitimate as anything else.

Employee first name: Â Alex Guyton Type of nomination: Â Â Â Peer to Peer (includes employee to manager recognition) Value employee exhibited: Passion Reason for this recommendation: On August 10th, 2016, while walking through the showroom, I met a young man and his mother. The mother spoke up and asked if her son could look at some trucks on the lot. The young man spoke up and stated that he had a specific interest in the Freightliner 114SD. Alex told the young man and woman to go right ahead. She stated that a sales manager had invited her and her son back to see the 114SD's, when they arrived in August. She stated that her son was very excited. Without hesitation Alex, grabbed the keys to the truck and went out to meet the young man. Alex took 30-45 minutes out of his day and gave his time to this young man. Alex started the truck, raised the dump bed and even raised the hood so the young man could see all of the working parts. I observed Alex's actions and went to meet the mother and son. The mother explained that her son has an obsession with machines, especially large equipment and airplanes. She stated that she and her son had visited other dealerships and were not met with the same hospitality. She stated that some even acted as if they weren't present, since they weren't looking to purchase. I feel that Alex's actions, however small he may feel they were, exemplifies the core values that Peach State is built upon. Alex displayed passion for another person and extended kindness, when he could have easily returned to his work and quickly forgotten about the young man. I am nominating Alex Guyton to be recognized for the core value of Passion.

Buses at the Beach
The Thomas Bus Sales of Georgia team again made a big impression during the Georgia Association of Pupil Transportation’s annual conference at Jekyll Island the week of June 20. Nearly every aspect of the week’s events at the scenic beach locale featured the Thomas Team’s participation in some way. The opening day kickoff lunch was sponsored by TBB and was attended by over 300 people. On Wednesday a large customer dinner was hosted by TBB at the renowned Jekyll Island Club that most participants called the most stunning event of the whole conference. But outside of these major happenings the team also spent time with customers on the golf course, at one-on-one dinners throughout the week, and showing off their truck display at the conference’s trade show. The Thomas team—Rhonda Keener, Shane Mayfield, Ray Durden, Rick Alotto, Wayne Bias and Jeff Davis—prepared for months for this week, which General Manager Ken Lane considers the most important conference of the year for meeting new customers. Peach State Truck Centers President Rick Reynolds attended Wednesday night’s customer dinner and was struck by how complimentary everyone was about Thomas Bus Sales of Georgia. “Everyone was talking not only about how great the Thomas Built products are compared to other brands, but also the dependability of the sales and field support teams,†said Rick. “It’s no wonder they won the President’s Award for outstanding achievement last year.â€

Parts Department
Jefferson has a new Parts Manager
I’d like to welcome Jimmy Lariviere to the Peach State family as the new Parts Manager at our Jefferson location. Jimmy started with Peach State Truck Centers on June 15, 2016. He comes to us from Carolina International Trucks in Greenville, South Carolina. Jimmy has over 22 years’ experience in the trucking industry and we look forward to having him in the driver’s seat of the Jefferson Parts Department. Jimmy is from Illinois originally and has lived in the Southeast for nearly two decades. When he came into the trucking industry he took to the parts business and enjoys its constant challenges. During his career he has held just about every position in the parts department from stocking parts to parts sales. In 2003, Jimmy was promoted to Parts Manager at Wallace International Trucks in Fort Myers, Florida and has been managing ever since. Jimmy moved to Carolina International in 2009 and completed the American Truck Dealers (ATD) Fixed Ops Course in 2011. Since coming to Peach State Jimmy says he enjoys the positive work environment. Everyone he’s encountered enjoys working here. Jimmy is looking forward to working with the outstanding crew in Jefferson and taking on new challenges with his new team. Outside of work Jimmy enjoys playing golf, riding motorcycles and has also performed lead vocals in a rock band. He lives with his wife of 22 years in Jefferson, Georgia.
Welcome, Jimmy!
"It's a Girl!"
Bryan Bain (Service, Birmingham) made a keen observation while working on a truck one day: In order to remove certain heavy parts from under the hood, a technician would have to balance on the tire to pull it out. This is obviously not the safest maneuver, so Bryan decided to do something about. On his own time at his home , he used his welding and metal work skills to devise a bracket that could be affixed to the side of truck while a technician is reaching in to pull out parts. Bryan tried his new tool out on the job and it proved to be a success. So much so that the other technicians wanted one too. Instead of telling them to go home and make their own, Bryan selflessly made enough for the whole shop. The brackets are now being used every week at Birmingham Freightliner, helping techs work more efficiently and—most importantly—safely.
I had the privilege of visiting your service and parts department on 9-17-16 arrived at approximately 9:30 with a fan clutch not cycling properly...purchased and replace an air solenoid which did not fix the issue...Chris and the two gentlemen at the parts counter went above and beyond the call of duty providing schematics and information that helped me to determine it was the pressure switch on the a/c which had a bad ground....two of your service techs also stopped and provided helpful information....Hats off to the crew at Birmingham Freightliner...you guys could teach classes on proper customer service in our industry!! Thank you and I will return... --Russell Crst M0683

Alabama Freightliner
PSTC Byron
2016 has seen Peach State Truck Centers continue to grow. Two new locations have sprung up in new territories for the organization—Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Byron, Georgia. The new stores help Peach State expand the company goal of being the dealer of choice in new areas. The Tuscaloosa location is named Alabama Freightliner and opened in February. JD Humphries, Birmingham Freightliner’s Service Manager, heads operations up in Tuscaloosa and says that there’s a great deal of potential for the new store. With six service bays and a 4,000 square foot parts warehouse, it’s a small operation. But without much competition in the area the location’s sales have grown steadily each month since opening. Currently there are five technicians and two parts salesmen working full time, with plans to bring more on as soon as possible. Kent Burns heads up the Service side of the business and Dustin Cline, the Parts. With a good location and a great team in place, Alabama Freightliner has a bright future ahead of it.

Twenty minutes south of Macon, Georgia Peach State opened up an operation in Byron that offers a full complement of parts, service, and sales support for the commercial truck market in Southeast Georgia. The store, which opened its doors in August, has nine full-time employees including four techs, one mobile tech, a parts and service representative and a driver. Wayne Bias is the Parts and Service Manager and Mike Eidson heads up sales. The location sells new Western Star and Thomas Bus vehicles, as well as used Freightliners in a range of makes and models. As with the new Tuscaloosa branch, Byron has tremendous room for growth. There’s more competition in the area, but according to Mike that only furthers the point that the area has a lot of heavy-duty trucking needs. Byron is a big market, and the new Peach State Truck Centers store there is in a prime location to do great business. “Here we grow again†is a statement we use a lot here. In 2016 this is especially true as we open two great locations with lots of room for growth.
