DALLAS, 12 April 2018 – Today, the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR) released the 2018 CEIR Index Report. The CEIR Index analyzes the 2017 exhibition industry and provides an economic and exhibition industry outlook for the next three years. As an objective measure of the annual performance of the exhibition industry, the CEIR Index measures year-over-year changes in four key metrics to determine overall performance: net square feet (NSF) of exhibit space sold, professional attendance, number of exhibiting companies and gross revenue.
Greetings ESCA Members and Prospective Members, Want to read our industry’s least favorite ‘four letter’ word? Procrastination! To some, it’s like the word ‘shank’ at the golf course; whisper it, spell it, but for goodness’ sake don’t say it out loud! For others though, this action is an unfortunate speed bump slowing possible success stories. Admittedly, my own beginning with ESCA was a lesson in (whisper) procrastination. For years I would receive email blasts from ESCA presenting the Summer Conference, Winter Meetings, Membership and other great reasons to join, attend and get involved. “I’m a small business; it’s too expensive; I don’t have time...”, I told myself. What I should’ve been saying was “ESCA’s perfect for small business; we need to budget for this; I need to make time”! Simply stated, I needed to invest in the health of our small business and our industry! In 2010, I made the decision to become a member of ESCA and registered for my first Summer Conference. Tahoe was a short drive up the hill from Sacramento and I was curious to see how this association might help create opportunity. Over the next several days, my eyes were opened to a group of welcoming members and staff eager to engage, learn and support each other. I had the opportunity to publicly introduce myself and share the history of our business, attend educational sessions, meet with industry vendors, discuss subcontracting opportunities; all while eating great food, enjoying a spectacular venue and making new friends. The golf and rafting trip only added to the fun! It was our own face to face community. I have now been an active member for eight years and then benefits have far outweighed my expectations. Each year the Summer Conference offers a new opportunity to listen to great speakers, discuss trending topics with industry leaders, strengthen friendships and member relationships. Each of these, and the many other offerings at ESCA and the Summer Conference, provide opportunities for growth; something we all have the need for. While writing this testimonial, I began thinking about how I can be an influence, participate or give back to our association; one that continues to strengthen our company’s reach, provide me personal growth and offer unmatched industry support and resources. I wrote down a few ideas that might relate to you: · If you’re a non-member, do what you can to join ESCA · Register for Summer Educational Conference · Bring an extra leader or key employee to SEC · Invite an industry colleague to join or attend an ESCA conference · Make sure the ESCA logo is on your website as an affiliation important to you · Get involved · Use and promote the use of ESCA members · Offer mentoring support to younger members and non-members In closing, I would like to express the gratitude I have for our association, it’s leadership, it’s members and the opportunities it continues to offer me. I recently was asked to join the Board of Directors at ESCA and am excited for a new chance to contribute and continue my involvement. I urge each of you to avoid your own procrastinations, however small they might be. Join, attend and get involved with ESCA! Mark Staples, President American Exposition Services, Inc.
