Although Mateen was said to be aligned with the terror group, President Obama, during a press conference, stated that Omar had no viable connection to ISIS. Such a statement complicates the motive behind Mateen's horrific actions, and proclamation of loyalty to ISIS. Reports have shown that Mateen held no official association or membership with the group. Furthermore, during the corresponding FBI Investigation, various clues emerged from Mateen's computer history. Investigators found that Mateen had viewed numerous ISIS videos of brutal murders and acts of terror, insinuating his fascination with and desire to join the extremist organization. It is said “If you live by the sword, you die by the sword”. Conversely, every decision made comes with consequences, and we must all lie in the beds that we have made for ourselves based on said decisions. With that being said, after numerous calls to law enforcement, including that of Mateen, Orlando police arrived at the scene where they disarmed Mateen by killing him. The ending of Mateen's life resulted in the release of hostages, aid for the wounded, and collection of the slain.
June 13th, 2016 was the day that America, along with the rest of the world, grappled with heart-breaking news regarding the massacre that occurred at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, FL. early that Sunday morning. As one of the deadliest mass shootings in American history, it has been reported that hundreds of our LGBTQ brothers & sisters were held hostage and 49 of those were sadly slaughtered. The perpetrator of said heinous act has been identified as 29 year old Omar Mateen of Fort Pierce, FL. The case has been deemed a hate crime against the LGBTQ community, but for Mateen, according to witnesses, this was an act of revenge against American forces that continue to bomb and torture Islamic nations. Before tragedy struck, Pulse attendees were simply enjoying their night in a space that many community members call a "safe haven" or "sacred" place; celebrating each other during a month that is characterized, nationally, by LGBT pride, love, and freedom. Our brothers and sisters were simply living in their truths as they communed with one another through music, dance, libation and love. Such communion was unexpectedly brought to an abrupt and tragic halt as Mateen proceeded to open fire inside of the club. With unclear, yet malicious reason and intention, Mateen decided to interrupt the jubilant atmosphere, claiming the lives of 49 beautiful and loved individuals. It has been reported that while holding attendees hostage, Mateen contacted the police and declared his allegiance to ISIS, a terrorist group that has been of great concern to the American government and public.
From there, we begin to hear the recollection of witnesses and victims about such a traumatic experience. One of the many questions arose following the attack was “Where were the security guards on the night of the shooting?” To our knowledge no information regarding security's whereabouts has been provided. What is known, however, is that Mateen was in fact employed as a security guard with the Martin Correctional Institute (MCI). His experience MCI could have equipped him with skill in how to obtain, operate, and conceal a handgun and a AR-15 rifle. Additionally, employees at the nightclub assert Mateen was frequent attendant to the club, which could have granted him ample time to study the layout of the building; allowing him to execute his plan with ease and discretion. Mateen had been going to Pulse for about three years. The regularity of his presence at the club causes many to wonder whether Mateen was actively battling with his own sexuality and identity. Being that Mateen was Muslim, people began to wonder if his religious views caused him denounce his sexual desires that deviated from his core religious beliefs. But, even if he was fighting inner demons, what would cause him to feel the need to inflict such pain and destruction on innocent, free-loving individuals? Omar Mateen
Witnesses, like Cord Cedeno and Kevin West, recount their interactions with Mateen on popular gay social apps websites like Grindr, Jack'd, and Adam4Adam. Additionally, Christ Perez, a writer of the New York Post mentioned that Omar’s ex-wife, Sitora Yusufiy, was spotted on a Brazilian television station with her current fiance, Marco Dias, attesting to her ex-husbands homosexuality. Moreover, the Palm Beach Post interviews a former friend and classmate of Mateen who was closeted during their friendship. Said old acquaintance reported that he and Mateen would go out to gay clubs together, including Pulse. At that time, he assumed Mateen was also closeted, an assumption that was validated by his claim that Mateen attempted to pursue a romantic relationship with him. In a recent post by the Canadian Press, drag performer Chris Callen, also known as, Kristina Mclaughin, knew Mateen as regular at the club. Callen's husband, Ty Smith suggested that Mateen may have had drinking issues. Smith also mentioned, that Mateen felt immense pressure from his religion and the strict expectations of his father, bringing one to question whether his familial and religious roles had caused his so much distressed that ultimately resulted in Mateen committing such a vile act against humanity. Interestingly enough, Callen explains that their friendship ended due to Mateen's overt devotion to his religion. Callen states that Mateen actually threaten he and Smith with a knife after one of the two made a joke regarding Mateen's religion: alluding to the deep conviction he possessed for his religious beliefs that may have directly contradicted his inner desires and impulses. Despite the insinuations of Mateen's secret sexuality and inner battles of self-acceptance, he lived, to the naked eye, as a straight man. This is clear through his numerous heterosexual relationships and marriages. At the time of the massacre, and Mateen's subsequent death, he was married to Noor Salmon. Through more extensive investigation, the FBI discovered that it was Salmon who drove Mateen to Pulse that evening. With this development, many questioned as to whether Salmon had any knowledge of Mateen's intentions. She claims that she did not, in fact, know of what her husband was planning. However, her claim loses legitimacy based on the numerous phone calls and "I love you" text messages Mateen sent to Salmon whilst holding individuals hostage and committing murder. It is this with these facts that federal officials perceive Salmon's story as "fishy," prompting for ongoing investigation into Salmon's role or position in this situation. It is indeed a peculiar narrative to uphold given the gravity of Mateen's crime, and the size of the artillery utilized for the shooting. Given that, one is left to wonder: Did she know that she had dropped her husband of at a gay club? How did conceal his weapon from her while getting in, being in, and getting out of the car? Although these questions have yet to be answered, as previously stated, the investigation of Salmon's knowledge of her husband's plan is ongoing. There is quite a bit to be said about this horrid event, aside from the litany of assertions and claims already presented. At the moment, there are no clear facts as to Mateen's motives, intent, mental health, or sexuality. What is known, however, is that 49 precious lives were stolen and can never be replaced. Their deaths have surely shaken the foundation of their familial and peer structure, as well as has left an irrefutable dark blemish on the face of American history.
when stagnant in DARKNESS THE HARDER it is TO SEE THE LIGHT
Rize-Up Magazine, and the NYPS family, recognizes our LGBTQ brothers and sisters, their lives, their worth, and the legacy of the death. We pay tribute to all of the Rizen Angels of the Pulse massacre. We send forth our love and prayers to every individual that has felt the heavy blow of this tragedy, whether it be family, friends, community members, or American citizens. We proudly stand with you during this tumultuous time, and urge us all to stand together against acts of hatred, injustice, and senseless violence. We are a family, and we stand in unity. It is our duty as a community, as a family to support, love, and have compassion for one another. The nightmare that this was has, however, opened many eyes to the sanctity of life and love; the unconditional regard for humanity and freedom; the violence that messages of hate, division, and inferiority can incite. Although a hefty price was paid, through blood and death, the world has been exposed to the humanity and worth of the LGBTQ community. Their deaths are not in vein, for now the overarching idea and perception of LGBTQ communities throughout the world have been brought to question in a way that is far removed from the normative arguments against our freedom to simply be. From the lands of Puerto Rico, New Delhi, London, United States, Paris, Australia, Thailand, India, Germany, Korea and more, people recognize the irrevocable pain that has ensued due to the hatred, anger, and/or discomfort of one man. And it is with said recognition that RizeUp pays homage to those Rizen Angels, whose lives will never be forgotten, whose love will never be unfelt, whose legacy will never go unacknowledged. Rest peacefully my darlings, rest on.

BRY'NT
B
ry'nt, a New York City native, is one artist that is absolutely irresistible. One of the best hardcore artists that graces the land of the living. When you engage in conversation regarding artists that can be considered "God's gifts of music," the name and artistry of Bry'nt fits perfectly under such a description of musical greatness. As a man with unstoppable drive and a well developed gift, he came out of the gate bold and unrelenting. Releasing one of the hottest albums of the decade entitled "Porn Star" in 2008, Bry'nt stepped out as a lyrical beast, turning the music industry on its head. Porn Star stood out as a fresh, sexy, and provocative project that slayed all others, giving us bomb hits like "Porn Star," "I'm The Sh*t," "Too Hot" and a slew of others. Bry'nt definitely came out serving the kids, bringing a sexy, raw, and distinct feel to Hip-Hop. His skill is so superb, that he was offered the opportunity to join the ever-so-loved host of Power 105, Ms. Angela Yee live on the famous radio station, "Shade 45." Although Bry'nt has seen a notable amount of success, he remains one of the realest, most grounded individuals around. In 2009, Bry'nt revamped his first project and presented listeners with the album entitled "Porn Star Part 2: Directors Cut". Living up to the grandeur and excellence ingrained in his debut, Bry'nt created new masterpieces like "Test My Gangsta," "Cant see," "Hello Goodbye," "Yes," "Step Your Pen Game Up" and the list goes on extensively. Each track exemplified his striking and versatile artistry. Not only do you get sexy and hardcore lyrical rap along with a flavorful vibe, but he simply pulls you all the way in through his relatable stories, and inspiring musicality. Further into his ever growing career, the R&B and Hip Hop genius dropped several bombs, while remaining authentic in his sound and musical style. Although Bry'nt continues to release tracks that speaks his truth, he never fails to progressively push the envelope, as seen with the dissemination of his 2013 EP "Time Is Up." With that, Bry'nt tugged at the experiences of consumers that can relate to feelings of being emotionally exhausted with relationships that are characterized by lies, deceit, and unrequited love; telling the trite story of having a significant other who is now a "deceiver", and the process of coming to the realization that person's "time is up." In the summer of 2014 Bry'nt served the kids with a project so hot that it made atomic bombs seem like fire crackers. The full EP of "Explain" and the accompanying video that emerged from collaboration with Bluntedmuse Productions captured the attention of fans all over; quenching the thirst of our souls with bona fide Hip-Hop realness and vibes can not go unnoticed or appreciated . "Explain" was determine to be a definite hit, being streamed across various radio station's and discussed in plethora of blogs with excellent reviews.
pretaining to some imperative matters and experiences that happen in everyday life. It is undoubtedly a track that can be understood by most people around the subjects of love, life, Inspiration, and commitment. Although the song is real to its core, it maintains the sexiness indicative of Bry'nt's style. Another collaboration drenched in realness is "21 Missed Calls" featuring EarthTone, which tells the story of the emotional journey one embarks on when their lover is trapped in a mindset of thinking that they're cheating on the low, but have been, in fact, caught in the act. Recently the two performed the hit for a boasting and exuberant crowd at the 2016 Queen's Pride Festival in NYC. Bry'nt is arguably limitless. With his innumerable gifts, he has effectively crossed over to the world of acting. He has given riveting performances throughout his acting career , as displayed in his role on one of the most watched original series known as "Finding Me" by OmeProTV. He does a exemplary job as the character Omar: a character who that stands as a bold 'gangsta', but is also in the process of 'finding himself' like the other characters developed. The show examines the convoluted nature of each character's journey to self-discovery and the experiences that distinguishes each path embarked on.
Bry'nt's virtuosity has allowed him to work with other artist with equally exquisite talents and distinct artistry. This can be seen through his work with artists like Esquire, Solomon, Brently Bawn, Last O, Earth Tone, Damien Crawford, Medino Green, TM'M West and so many others. Check out one his most esteemed collaborations with Solomon Ray below. It can surely be said that Bry'nt is indeed not one to be intimidated by hard work and success. In his latest work, this hip hop mogul linked up with one of the dopest rappers and producers to grace the scene, Esquire: an artist with an unquestionably excellent flow and production skills. Together, these music heavy weights two enticing and lyrical track's titled "Courtside" and "Everyday," which also included another talented artist named Deriq. These two exquisite tracks take effectively challenge the emotions of listeners; when getting into Everyday, one must approach it with an open mind. The song lays out clear logical assertions

Earth Tone
W
hen it comes to having an outstandingly distinct sound, one that is clearly professional, genuine, and unmatched, the work and artistry of the handsome and talented EarthTone comes to mind. EarthTone has upheld the true essence of Hip-Hop while simultaneously putting his own little spin on it. To experience the wonder of EarthTone means for one to feel compelled to listen intently. His is, without a doubt, an exuberant artist that proves that he is a true proponent of Hip-Hip, leaving his mark on the face of the genre's music and culture. Through his candor, artistry, and unapologetic candidness, EarthTone brings a sense of balance to Hip Hop music, and the industry. As a member of the LGBTQ community, he has fearlessly embodied the gall and talent to shatter the barriers placed on LGBTQ artists in the heteronormative, hypermasculine, homophobic atmosphere that said industry usually endorses. Rize Up had the honorable opportunity to sit down with “EarthTone” to dig deeper into his lived experience and his continuously evolving relationship with Hip-Hop. His music reaches the masses and speaks the truth of so many silent voices. The messages incorporated into his art are pivotal in empowering not only the LGBT community, but the world in its entirety. We feel the vibes and emotions that attract us to his lyrics, as they are complimented by his sound. Listeners are forced to think via music that consciously challenges perceptions and ideals. Such a task can only stem from the illustrious Naquan “EarthTone” Williams. On June 28th, EarthTone met with Editor In Chief, writer Mickey J. Sabb, and engaged in deep conversation about his past, present, and what is to come in the near future. 1. Who is EarthTone? "EarthTone is an artist who is definitely in his own lane. I'm a versatile artist. I have a wide pallet, but its very selective. I’m an artist that loves to show all sides and sounds of Hip-Hop, because there's not just one particular sound of Hip-Hop. Hip-Hop is huge. In my music you will always hear a message in reference to something. Sometimes it will speak to you in a form of reality. My music will speak to our experiences of everyday life. Music is something that has been lived, or something that people can relate to from their daily lives. But, overall, EarthTone is also about complete authenticity. That truly became apart of my image and who I was around the year 2014 when my album G-Male was released that year, in which that was my message and motive behind that album. The authenticity of who EarthTone is fearlessly." With the released of the album "G-Male," EarthTone broke free and expressed the fullness of who he was. Although he produced other mix tapes before G-Male, he states that he had yet to reach the level of authenticity that is captured in G-Male. It allotted him the space to be “Black, free, and happily gay.," which actually inspired the the creation of the title. Through hit songs like “Who The F*** Is You” and sickening music videos, like that for “To Whom It May Concern” he speaks to and of the realities of life and correcting the ignorance of our society.
He's even responsible for producing clever song’s like "F.A.G" (F*** Awesome Guy) that brilliantly transforms the slur into something positive. Hence F.A.G became an anthem that eventually led to a movement within the LGBT community. Not only does EarthTone proclaim his freedom as a Black gay male rapper, but he also uses his music as a catalyst for advocacy and activism. 2.“How do you come up with a sound that is so alluring, real, and broad? Where do you go to draw inspiration? “ "I grew up in the Golden Era of music in the 90’s where I was drawn to artist like Eryka Badu, Floetry, and The Wu-Tang Clan and also being inspired by the artistry and delivery of Busta Rhymes. No matter where you see Busta at, whether its on a cypher, or whether he’s on a party song spittin’, he delivers. And thinking of what kind of artist that I wanted to be as EarthTone, I wanted to be able to fit in any space, and be able to hold my own. That's definitely one of the attributes that I wanted to bring towards my pallet. When it comes down to my sound, growing up I was listening to Z100, WBLS, HOT 97, pop, and alternative rap. Whatever I could feel the beat to or groove with, and comprehend what they was talking about, then I listened to it. But all of that I kind of incorporated into EarthTone. That’s what I wanted EarthTone to represent. An artist who speaks of everyday experiences, and have people comprehend with what I’m rappin’ about. " It is discovered that EarthTone has been making music since 2006, however, the creation of G-Male marks the moment in his career where he began to step into his LGBT identity and infuse it with his art. “I was making music that was universal, and quote on quote straight. But in 2014 I had came to the point where I decided to switch it. I wouldn’t necessarily describe it as a revelation but more so of a 180 degree turn from what I was doing before. I wanted to be all the way real with it: everything that I had put out, and everything that I did in representation of who I am. I want it to be authentic. I pride myself on being real.” In the album he shares various experiences in his life, as illustrated in songs like “Turning 30," where he discloses how one of his most troubling times became one of his most triumphant. He expounds on having to find his next move in life after enduring job changes, which landed him in his hometown in New Jersey as he attempted to navigate the novelty and intimidating nature of the age 30. Along his journey, as explained in the song, EarthTone was faced with the loss of his mother on March 30th 2013. 3. In the midst of such a trying time, how did you manage to get through that? How did you survive the tough reality of living without your mother? “I got through it by the love and support of family. My brothers and sisters, my cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. They definitely kept me up. But, through that tough time, it was dark. I didn’t want to speak much, neither move much. I was very angry, and more so mad with God on thinking how could a wonderful soul like my mom be taken
away so soon, and how could a good soul such as herself deserve that...My mother was one of the reasons behind the album G-Male, and one of the forces and the push that helped me to move forward in my life. After her passing, I realized that time is too limited to be worried about what other people are thinking about you and how they want you to live. So after that fact, I began to live my life. She was the push that helped me to live freely and authentically, as well as being the push for me to put out an album. The other truth is that my mother knew about me, and about who I was already way before she passed. It’s just crazy how it happened the way that it did. And from there reality gave me the inspiration to come forth with G-Male the album. 4. "What could you hear your mom say about all of your triumphs, victories, and accomplishments, right here and now? What would she say?" “She would definitely be so proud of me. She was definitely one of my biggest supporters in everything that I did and that I do. Before being a solo artist/rapper, years ago my brothers use to take me out to venues to perform with them and she would just be like go ahead,’ she supported us in all of our endeavors. She always was the type of woman who always kept a smile on her face and kept a positive spirit.” In 2015, EarthTone graced fans with the incomparable album “New Balance," where he delivers bars and lyrics harder than before. Between the G-Male album and the release of New Balance, EarthTone has proven to be a well-learned student of Hip-Hop and a master of his craft. 5. "How did you develop your skills as a writer? “ I’ve been writing and rappin’ since the age of 7. I remember the very first song that I wrote, and the first song that I performed along with my big brother called 'Black On Black Genocide.' Writing is easy for me, and the amazing part is that I actually enjoy writing music more than producing. When it comes to writing my music, no matter where I am, my environment plays a part in how I get my ideas and concepts to create my music. Even if I’m out and about, and it’s one simple word that I spot, I get the idea or concept just from that, and I write. Like for a perfect example, the song 'Illionaire' and how that song came to life. Literally, I’m on the train and I see this dude with a hat on that has the word 'Illionaire' on the front it, and I’m like Oh thats fi-ya. I was so fascinated by the fact that a word such as that, changed from millionaire to Iillionaire and was created to describe someone with an ill skill. Once I saw that word, I just thought it was so dope and there I was writing true facts about things that pertains to that word. Even with some of my productions, sometimes I literally search for samples that fit my sound the best. I craft it, make it my own, and input other creative add-ons that complete the song. Sometimes I may run into a change in the song to the point where i don’t even need the sample anymore. And speaking of writing, for me, as an artist, I write my lyrics first before I produce the sound, because I like for my sound to correspond with the lyrics that I’m rappin, and I take pride in putting out good quality music”.
To this end, EarthTone is an artist that takes the time and effort to ensure that he disseminates products that are well-thought out and ingeniously constructed. The album New Balance absolutely epitomizes EarthTone's goal for exemplar artistry. He manages to form a vibe, flavor and sound of that accentuates his reality, which in turn exemplifies the foundation of Hip-Hop music and culture. 6. "In your song Illionaire, featuring Keef, you reflect on how much Hip-Hop music has changed, which served as one of the inspirations behind 'New Balance.' In reference to that, do you think that 'real' Hip-Hop will ever be recognizable again?" "I think that Hip Hop is expanding, and were just fighting it, allowing it to become an old head vs new head battle instead of just accepting and embracing it. I think that Hip-Hop should be broken into categories. You should be able to have your trap or your lyric conscious or whatever you wanna’ call it, you could have your club rap, you know what I’m sayin’, your pop rap, Flo- Rida. Like Flo-Rida has been killing it in the game for like 6 years, and you can’t say thats not rap or Hip-Hop music. It may not be the kind of Hip-Hop that you're into, but its become so big that rap is like an umbrella now. and then we have all of these subcategories under it. It's just the matter of finding out where you fit or mix. And it just so happens to be that trap music is the highlight right now. There are all of these subcategories under rap, but nowadays the radio, they just choosing to focus on trap. If it can’t go in the club, it don’t go on the radio. That wasn’t the case back then. The radio back then would play stuff that you could listen to in your car as you drive. Maybe a few club joints here and there, but we had a wide range of stuff. You weren’t hearing the same songs five times a hour. Now, you got 10 songs on the playlist that they constantly play repeatedly. Because thats what the younger kid’s are listening to, and they tune into the music. But with that being said, if you want more lyrical Hip Hop artist, find more lyrical Hip Hop Artist and go support them. You can’t really complain about something if your not out there doing something to change it. That's why I don’t complain about that, because i don’t think that Hip Hop nowadays is necessarily anything messed up, i just think it is what it is. It’s almost too many platforms nowadays like the Internet. It opened it up too much to the point where there's no gate keepers anymore. So now your getting a lot of dope Hip-Hop, tons of it. But your also getting ton’s of sh**. So its like how do you shuffle through the sh** and find the real Hip-Hop. Most people don’t have the energy or the effort to do that. So they just go by what they're hearing, and what they're hearing is curated by people who don’t know sh**. If you want to hear the real sh**, you gotta go find it. The radio is not for that anymore. That’s why I’m kind of against like the old head vs new head beef. You have to stop that cycle and embrace the kids. Let them kids do what they do. You can’t be mad with them because they grew up in a era of music that their influenced by. I think people should just be focused on perfecting their craft and music if there's an audience for it. I think that many artist should be in there own lanes. Not making music a competition, but also the older generation uplifting the new generation too.”
7. "Why is it that LGBT clubs and events don’t seem to support the artists in our community? That song “Christopher Street Cypher” should have been beaming through the speakers at every club, and at every pride event through out pride week. What do you think the reason is for this?” “ It's because people carry various ideas and images of what a LGBT artist sounds and looks like. Like they imagine a majority of artist within the LGBT community to be, sound or have some sort of femininity. And its not always like that. They try to box us in small boxes. Artist in our community come with different artistry and we come in varieties. Like me, as a masculine artist, in this industry, artist like myself are overlooked because were not of the image that they want us to be as being apart of the LGBT community. And there’s also not enough support from our own community. There are tons and tons of dope artist in our community who carry heavy gifts and skills, and their not being supported enough even by our own community. We lack in that support of supporting one another, and we should do better as a community.” With that said, our community must become more committed to one another, and to the diversity of said community. EarthTone supports other artists in the community in various ways, including through collaboration. Recently he performed live with Bry’nt at the Queen’s pride festival in New York. They slayed the stage and amped the crowd with their infectious presence and undeniably awesome music. Up next on EarthTone's calendar for EarthTone is his scheduled performance at the Atlanta LGBT Music and Film Festival on August 25-August 27. EarthTone has also started to work on a new album, entitled “The Prequel” with 3 other stellar rap artist “Swanny, Billy Hood, and I.K.P, who all have come together to form “The Alliyance”. The album will include tracks like “On Our Way Up” to “Mafia Science”, and “Sugar Water: P1 Phone Tap”. EarthTone poured some exclusive HOT tea by letting us know he is currently working on a new album, one of four new album’s he will release throughout the entire year, calling the project "The Seasons of EarthTone”. The album’s will be dropped during each season of the year, giving the kids their life as the seasons change. One can only imagine what a masterpiece this will turn out to be; the idea alone is brilliant, and nothing less of what we can expect from EarthTone.
FLY YOUNG RED
This artist needs no introduction. Fly Young Red has shaken the music industry up like a 9.5 magnitude earthquake since he stepped on the scene. He has obliterated a ton of barriers in the rap game. It is evident and true that the Fly Young Red walks in the fullness of his integrity; being the bold person that he is, and showing the world all that he has to offer. He reminds us that music has no boundaries. Music is not for a one kind of people. He exemplifies the diversity that percolates throughout the Hip-Hop world. With his provocative candor and masterful skill, Fly Young Red has gain the world's full attention. Fly Young Red has been giving the children what they need since his first mix-tape, "Pretty Boy Realness" in 2013. Pumping us up with songs like "Get Money" and "Yass Bish" . album speaks to and through the LGBT community. Fly Young Red has presented different stages of realness, speaking of the struggle of Black gay men, like in the song "U Dont Want It". Check it out Below.
Fly Young Red is also quite, unapologetically resplendent, as sexiness effortlessly seeps out of him. Exemplified in songs like "Throw That Boy P****," Fly Young Red appeals to the booty loving gay men everywhere, while normalizing the sexuality of Black gay men in a fashion that revolutionary and groundbreaking. Needless to say, the artist gained an incredible amount of attention from the release and mass dissemination of Throw That Boy P****; giving proud tops and verse-top an anthem to rock to, bottoms a jam to twerk to, and the rest of the world a record to respect or hate to love. Fly Young Red then released other bangers such as " No Type," "Want Some More Remix," and "Nothing Different" with his second album, titled "Broke The Game". His efforts has provided him with access to networks like BET and VH1 as supporters of his repertoire. Given the lack of formidable Black LGBT representation on said networks, it is clear that Fly Young Red has made a name for himself in the industry. It is rather evident that he has indeed broken the game. Fly Young Red is now the first proud & openly gay signed rapper/artist of Music and Talent Nation. He is on his way to enrapture the world with his intellectual lyrics, distinct sound, and effective art, with Fly Nation by his side. This past May, the artist released the song "Loraine:" a beautiful song that immediately takes hold of your heart and mind, with lyrics passionately delivered and message dedicated to transwomen. In by the Trans Lives Matter movement, Loraine served as a medium to pay homage to those transwomen lost, while simultaneously empowering transwomen everywhere. Young Fly Red continuously destroys the barriers and limits that society and industries bestow; in explicitly being a Black gay rapper that respects, loves, and stands for/worth the trans* community, he has dismantled a myriad institutional structures successfully and with great style. Oh, but best believe, Young Fly Red is still a fresh, hot cup of Black tea. In June, this fly young man delivered a powerful, charged, and rhetorically gay remix to Desiigner's "Panda." Using a ton of gay lingo to call out Black male promiscuity and set the record straight in regard to the homophobia within Hip-Hop that caused some many straight arists and labels to denounce the grandeur that is Throw That Boy Pussy. Rize Up can;t seem to find a lie in the lyrics, so take a second, and listen to this young star give a new feel to spillling tea and throwing epic shade.

Anthony and Brently Bawn stand an inspiring power couple and creators of BAWN Media Group (BMG). These two have merged their talents and passions together to develop a network that provides media for the LGBT community. On July 5th, Rize Up was granted the opportunity to interview the Bawns to get a more whollistic understanding what BMG is all about, as well as what the public can expect from them in the future. Anthony Bawn, CEO and the man behind some of excellent network productions, series, and films indulged us with his presence. Anthony played a hand in the creation of the glass-ceiling shattering reality show "Whats The Function" and the blunt panel "Truth Be Told,” and drama series "Cheetah In August. More details from the conversation are to follow. “Tell me, in your own words, who are the Bawns?” "The Bawns are your normal, every day couple whose goal is to act in ways to evoke change, and evoke thought in the LGBT community, and be able to shine in their own light of who they are as a power couple". Of course Mr. Bawn didn't sugar coat the truth and explained, humorously, that the work and working together can be quie “challenging.” But, he also explains "most importantly we both have the same common goals, although we sometimes have different view points on how to achieve those goals.” Although there may be bumps in the road along the ride, the Bawns are a solid unit and a great example of how a healthy relationship functions. Anthony continued by sharing with Rize Up the scoop on where it all began for BMG. Prior to BMG, Anthony owned a record label called "’Bout That entertainment,” which the entrepreneur used to create various albums, work with a number of artists, and learned the ins and outs of distribution. One of those artists was none other than Anthony’s husband, Brently Bawn. Later on, the couple decided to relocate to NYC in hopes of expanding their business, but was met with unforeseen challenges that caused them to make some changes. The Bawns replaced the old name of the label to "Little
Label, Major Distribution.” Before the renaming, the company had seen a decline in artists that wanted to sign, so the Bawns sought to focus on distribution mainly. Little label, Major Distribution became BGM after the success of the show What’s the Function. Bawn, the name, is actually an acronym of both gentlemen’s names put together (Brently Anthony Willis Newsome). Speaking of Brentley, the interview would not suffice without some background on his phenomenal talents and contributions. Brentley is one of those artists that sings from the heart, and does it with perfection. The R&B artist now has four amazing soul stirring album's and continues to shake up the music industry with his new and latest single "Netflix and Chill". To get into more of the latest releases from Brentley, head over to the Apple store and Google Play to see all of the greatness that Brentley has to offer. “What was and is your vision for BMG?” "The vision for Bawn Media was to create original content that catered to the LGBT community, and to be able to broadcast it on a major platform. The vision was to also open the doors for other actors, writers and producers to showcase their work, especially Black LGBT films. There is a loss in Black LGBT films. It’s hard to search through and out to find a movie, or any show that shows a black LGBT character with principle. And a lot of people out there are struggling to keep these things afloat. Which is why I then created Bawn Tv. One of the things that will help solve that is if many black LGBT producers, and writers worked together and united to put all of the Black LGBT content on one network, which would drive every one to one location to watch good quality Black LGBT content. Which is also hard at the same time because of course everyone wants to get paid for their work, and production, but at the same time it’s also hard to get every one to see the vision that once we get our writers and producers together, we'll have a lot more power to bring in advertisers, to draw in advertisers to us, so that every one can get compensated properly as we bring Black LGBT films to where it should be. Which is one of the journeys that I am working on to try to nurture that." “Do you think our movies can make it to theatres?”
" Absolutely our films can be in theaters. There are theaters and negotiators out there who we could talk to and then be able to put our films in the movie theaters. But it’s all about planning and working with the right team and funding of sponsors to push it. You just have to plan for it. It can happen." BAWN Media Group is a perfect example of an organization that supports their community, and who teach valuable skills to people in general through their weekly workshops and training. The group helps actors acquire the skill and useful tools needed to deliver groundbreaking performances. Singers are also included in BMG. They provide vocal training for professional and novice vocalist. BMG also supports the LGBT community by ensuring that we are aware of the values of our individual lives and our community. Recently BMG had released a silent illustration/production with a message about sexual activity, responsibility, and safety. Here's what Bawn Media Group has to say below: As you can see that BGM wears many hats. It is evident that the production company is an ongoing force in Black LGBTQ media. Such that the company released BAWN Tv in 2014. Rize Up has a listed our top 3 favorite shows on the roster: #1 Cheetah In August - written by writer Andrew Malone. #2 NAZ AND MAALIK - Naz And Maalik is a film filled with passion, relation, depth, sincerity, connection, and contentment. The religious challenges that both Naz and Maalik face are prohibitory to not only their relationship, but also to the authenticity of who they truly are as individuals. On Tuesday May 31st, Rize Up Magazine had the chance to sit down and interview your host, Sir Demark. Tapping into the tea of Demark Manigo. Get into this flavor. We know for a fact that he operates with excellence as a host, and a few may know how magnificent he is as a person. But on this day, Rize Up Magazine wanted to access the world of Demark and get a response in his own words in explanation of, “Who is Demark Manigo?” During the question, he opened up with a bright smile as he thought to himself with a radiant glow. He then answered, “Demark is surely and definitely one of a kind. He is incomparable. Without a doubt unforgettable, for his first impression is always a good impression”. As Demark expressed his thoughts, Rize Up had found it be factual. We also wondered how was Morning Tea brought to life. With a brief story, our awesome host gave us the tea, on how morning tea was presented and birthed. Demark responded “at one of the events in time of my life while I was in college, a group of friends, colleagues and I would gather at our friends house every week. Our group was called The Coffee Clutch. When we got together we would sip on the choices between tea or coffee as we would talk, chat and kiki about tons of topics of interest.” as he stated. For that heavily inspired the idea and title of how morning tea came about for the show. But that wasn’t the only inspiration and root behind the magic of morning tea. He then expressed how the show and its formation was presented to him by Founder and President of National Youth Pride Services, Frank Walker. Who also inspired and became one of the causes of such excellence to come to fruition. Speaking of motives and motivation. Rize Up had the chance to question the host Demark Manigo, “What motivates the host of Morning Tea”? His reply is an answer that you can’t resist, but more so

And exactly how you are tuning up your listeners, is a job of sincerity that will never be in vain.” We then wanted to know the insider of who was on the favorite guest list of this season 1 thus far.
