The following pages highlight a few of the innovative programs and resources that have been funded through donations to the Eudora Schools Foundation (ESF). Donor support impacts student achievement, teacher excellence, and helps to make Eudora schools the very best. The ESF serves all of the district’s 1,700 students and 250 staff members, and is sustained by the community, individuals, businesses, alumni, parents, school employees, and others that contribute to the success of Eudora students. We invite you to read the stories on the following pages to see the wonderful impact you are making in Eudora schools. Get ready to stand up and clap!
Text
"I was able to read multiple stories about different learning disabilities to first grade classrooms. The students loved hearing about characters in the story that related to peers. These stories lead to great discussions about inclusion, how to treat others with respect, and how to problem solve different situations." - Jill Dodge, Librarian
EUDORA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
My favorite season has arrived. The cozy season, the good book by the fire season. The season of gratitude and, for me, the season of reflection. As the Eudora Schools Foundation (ESF) Board looks to the end of 2018, we reflect that it has been truly a magnificent year- in fact it was a $100,000 year! This dollar amount includes funds raised, external grants won, and a handful of ongoing long-term projects to which we’ve committed. It took a strong and committed team to get us to this milestone. And this same team, Team Cardinal, took on an epic project with the Outdoor Fitness and Learning Center at Eudora Middle School. The ESF partnered with local business leaders, were awarded community grants, and made donor dollars stretch farther to build an incredible facility for students. What a triumph of community spirit! I am so privileged to be able to serve my Eudora community by helping do the work of the Foundation. The ESF’s purpose is to enrich the student experience, reward teacher excellence, and make our schools the very best. This season I am thankful for our generous and committed donors. I am grateful and proud that my sons attend one of - if not THE - best small schools in Kansas populated with innovative educators, enrichment opportunities, and dedicated staff. Lastly, I invite you to join me in giving a gift to our “I Love Eudora Schools” annual campaign (see page 6 for giving details). I can’t wait to see what happens in the next year with so many great initiatives planned. With gratitude,
Coding and Circuit Tools Grant Recipient: Kaylyn Stout Allows first grade students the opportunity to explore the world of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

"I have been able to teach self-monitoring, individual responsibility, and self-advocacy in a very different way. Many students in my classroom, as well as others outside of my classroom, have benefited from these watches and I feel grateful to work at a school where teachers are given the means to try 'out of the box' ideas." - Dave Powers, WEBS Teacher

From the ESF Board
"My students get very excited every time they see STEM on our schedule. It has become part of their routine, and most often the favorite. Getting to watch my students interact and work together to solve a problem has been very rewarding. They are very proud of themselves when they successfully navigate the 'Code and Go Robotic Mouse' through the mazes." - Kaylyn Stout, First Grade Teacher

Go Direct Sensors Grant Recipients: Paul Kaldahl, Roberta LaFontaine, and Betsy Lawrence Enhances the learning of all middle school students by providing them with probeware equipment. Just like real scientists, students will have instant and accurate data collection and representation that will save time and increase lab accuracy.
Spanish Library Grant Recipients: Melanie McQueen and Kim Lancaster Allows middle and high school students enrolled in Spanish the opportunity to improve their literacy, vocabulary, comprehension, background knowledge, spelling, grammar, and writing.
“As Eudora Middle School enrollment has continued to increase, the demand for outdoor space for physical fitness/physical education class activities, after lunch ‘outdoor time’, outdoor reward time space, and general outdoor classroom time has skyrocketed. Our students will benefit from many more opportunities to be outside. I cannot thank our community partners and the Eudora Schools Foundation enough for making this project come to life at EMS.” - Jeremy Thomas, Eudora Middle School Principal
First Aid Grant Recipients: Sondra Garner and Danielle Young This enrichment program teaches Eudora Middle School students basic universal skills on how to save a life. This program might inspire them to work in the medical field or help in a babysitting incident.
"We have had students who have asked us to recommend other novels because they enjoyed reading the novels in the library. The novels provided additional culture study of different customs and countries which is not always possible on a daily basis in the classroom." - Melanie McQueen, Spanish Teacher
Culinary Video Equipment Grant Recipient: Jack Low Provides high school culinary arts students the unique opportunity to create video cooking demonstrations. Students practice and teach their culinary techniques while being video taped and projected on an overhead screen allowing other students to receive a maximized view of the cooking demonstration.
Vision Stimulation Grant Recipient: Danielle Young Provides health career students with the unique opportunity to use low vision simulation kits. These kits provide students a hands-on experience that allows them to empathize with, while gaining skills, those who have impaired or low vision. "There were several students who were surprised at how much vision deficits effect your day-to-day life and care. We did an exercise on attempting to pour water into a medicine cup while having low vision and students stated how they understood now why those with low vision have to get so close to see while pouring and how easy it could be to make a mistake in pouring the right amount of medication for themselves." - Danielle Young, Health Careers Teacher

I grew up in Eudora on Birch Street. In fact, my parents met while they were both students at Eudora High School. When my husband and I got married and started looking for a place to settle down, Eudora was at the very top of the list. We wanted to raise our children in schools that would truly care about them, as well as provide opportunities to prepare them for college. We are so thankful we made the decision to live in Eudora. We often share that every single teacher that our three girls have had has made a positive and lasting impact on them. The Eudora Schools Foundation (ESF) has brought so many unique opportunities to our schools, teachers, and students. This past year, our girls specifically loved the new enrichment opportunities offered at the middle school. There were so many possibilities that they had a hard time narrowing down their lists! We give because we value the ESF’s mission and appreciate the work that is being done. We are grateful for the emphasis on helping bring support and opportunities to all students. The Eudora community is a better place because of ESF initiatives. Thank you ESF for all that you do! - Jeanette, Ryan, Haley, Sydney, and Karley Owens
