Throughout the month of December, IHGS collected gifts for Ocean of Love kids. We would like to sincerely thank all of the families and staff members who donated to this cause. We would also like to recognize the Island Heights Police Department for their generous donation. Because of your support, we were able to collect all of the gifts that were requested by six different children located in Ocean County whose lives have been impacted by childhood cancer.
We would also like to recognize the sixth grade class, who helped facilitate these efforts behind the scenes. During their enrichment period, the sixth grade class folded paper cranes, which are a sign of healing and hope. These cranes were used as ornaments on the tree that sat in the lobby of the school. The sixth grade class also helped wrap the gifts, and walked to Ocean of Love to deliver them.
We are truly blown away by the overwhelming amount of support that was received from the entire IHGS community, and thank you again for your generosity and ongoing support.
HOOPS FOR HUNGER
Each year the IHGS holds their annual Hoops for Hunger basketball shootout. All of our students and staff bring in non-perishable food items to participate in a free throw competition to benefit the Island Heights United Methodist Church Food Bank. This year over 100 non-perishable food items were donated to the Food Bank. Thanks to Mr. L and Mrs. Caputo for putting this great event together. Congratulations to all the winners!
IHGS HOLIDAY CONCERT
Our Holiday Concert at Central Regional High School was a big hit yet again! Our band and student body, under the direction of Mr. Carl Brodbeck and Mrs. Alison Walk, respectively, performed various holiday classics. Santa even took time out of his busy schedule to stop by hand out apples and oranges and, of course, pose for pictures! Thank you to the Island Heights Volunteer Fire Department for assisting in Santa's visit!
BRIDGING THE GAP
In the spirit of this holiday season I want to thank all of our parents, staff and community members who generously donated a gift towards our Giving Tree this year. The Island Heights Grade School last year initiated a partnership with Ocean of Love which supports children and families of children with cancer. The Giving Tree this year supported that great cause. Our sixth graders walked over to Ocean of Love last Friday and delivered over two thousand dollars’ worth of gifts which will make many children very happy this Christmas. The generosity of our families, staff and community is very much appreciated by the organization and the families of Ocean of Love.
On behalf of the Board of Education, staff and students of Island Heights Grade School, I want to extend to everyone wishes for good health, continued success and much happiness this holiday season and throughout the new year. As always, thank you for your continuous support for our children.
Are you looking for some educational ways to entertain your child during Winter Break? Then check out the 5 great websites below. Students will have fun on their devices, but also learn at the same time! Another enjoyable activity is to have students write or type a journal entry about what they have done over Winter Break. And of course, Winter Break is also the perfect time for students to cuddle up and read some good books!

CRMS BAND PERFORMANCE
The Central Regional Middle School Concert Band, under the direction of Mrs. Ree Shivers, performed a holiday music selection for our student on December 10th. The students enjoyed the performance and we found some alumni in the band as well!
Thanks to Ree and the kids for spreading some holiday cheer!
