Here at MRI we always seem to have something happening. Whether our CAPS group is out on an adventure in the community or we are hosting a community wide fundraiser, we wanted to keep everyone in the loop! Thank you for taking the time to subscribe to our newsletter. You will see our newsletter is issued as October/November. Our plan is to educate our viewers on what took place in the current month, and offer a glance at any upcoming events the following month. For the first few months we will be working through the kinks and striving to release a well polished electronic newsletter on a regular basis. With that in mind, please give us feedback through email at cabrown@maconresources.org or feel free to message us on Facebook. We are doing this for you, so if there is anything you see missing or not working correctly please let us know! Please enjoy
Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Newsletter
On October 4th Amy, along with the people we serve, cut the ribbon to our recently remodeled gymnasium. The ribbon cutting not only marked the completion of our gym, but rather the beginning of what is to come..
Tuesday, November 27th
The Tuesday after Thanksgiving marks the international day of giving #GivingTuesday. The day of giving falls in line with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, just in time for the holiday season ahead. This year MRI has created a giving page on ILgive.com. On November 27th please visit the site and make a donation to MRI. On the donation page, givers will see how their donation will impact the people Macon Resources serves. Whether your donation simply provides materials for day training, or provides support for job training, every donation makes a huge impact on what we do here at MRI. Please consider making MRI your organization to give to this year. We ask that you encourage friends and family to participate as well. https://www.ilgive.com/organizations/mri
The beginning of a healthy MRI
The five months it took to transform our gym into the beautiful space it is now seemed to take a lot longer than that. The gym went into a lock down until the renovation was completed. Curious people passing by speculated what the gym would look like. Once in a while a quick view of the project could be seen through a crack in the door as painters and construction crews made their way to lunch. Our gymnasium is a hot spot for activities. In that area we hold various events such as dog church (a program with PawPrint Ministries), holiday dances, exercise classes for day training and so on. Without the availability of that space a lot of those activities were put on hold until the gym was back in operation. We are very thankful for the community and their support. Through our three main fundraisers this year Overcome Obstacles, our Golf Tournament and the Decatur Craft Beer Festival we were able to cover the costs associated with this project. MRI would also like to thank DCC Marketing, Decatur Blueprint and New Era Signs for helping us turn our vision into reality. After a couple positive high energy meetings with DCC Marketing we had a solid blueprint of what our new area would look like. After stripping everything off the walls, the painting began. Once the layer of white paint was applied, you could instantly feel the gym come to life. Next to come was the layer of blue paint that surrounds the perimeter of the gym. New Era Signs worked to get our motto painted along the East wall. Next came the flooring and finally Decatur Blueprint applied the green decals and striping. Since the ribbon cutting everyone has enjoyed using the space! Upgraded technology and inclusive exercise equipment allows for more opportunities for activities.

Along with the ribbon cutting, October 4th also marked the public announcement of MRI's Meaningful Meadows. The inclusive outdoor park for adults with disabilities marks the first of its kind in this area. The 1.5 acre park will focus around five keystones. Each area will touch on the needs and wants of the individuals we serve. Exercise Walking path, sports court Sensory chimes, butterfly garden Occupational Space Bird feeding, weather reporting, grounds keeping Escape Quiet sitting areas Social Outdoor classroom, yard games Recreation is a large aspect of life and we want to help the people we serve overcome any obstacle that may be in the way. Meaningful Meadows will drastically improve the overall health and well-being of everyone at MRI. If you would like to be a part of this amazing project, keep an eye out for our sponsorship opportunities coming soon.

MRI’s Bright Start Program earned a prestigious endorsement by Parents as Teachers National Center as a Blue Ribbon Affiliate, making it one of the top performing home visiting affiliates within the international Parents as Teachers network. The official designation was made on October 1, 2018. Being named a Blue Ribbon Affiliate affirms that MRI’s Bright Start Program is a high-quality member of the home visiting field, implementing the evidence-based Parents as Teachers model with fidelity. Families in the Macon County community are positively impacted by the services delivered by this program, which include home visits, group connections, child screening and connections to community resources, equipping parents with knowledge and resources to prepare their children for a stronger start in life and greater success in school. To earn Blue Ribbon Affiliate status, MRI’s Bright Start Program underwent a rigorous self -study and National Center review process to confirm that they are meeting Parents as Teachers’ standards of fidelity and quality. Blue Ribbon Affiliates are exemplary programs, delivering highest quality services to children and families. Implementation with quality and fidelity is vital in home-visiting programs as it determines a program’s effectiveness in accomplishing its original goals and intended outcomes. It also verifies that a program is being implemented as designed. Parents as Teachers rigorous endorsement process demonstrates an affiliate’s accountability and credibility to the community, its funders, elected officials and the partner organizations with which they work. “We take great pride in the diversification and quality of services and programs we are able to offer at MRI, and this designation validates our commitment to provide the best services and programs we can for those we serve,” said Amy Bliefnick, President and CEO of Macon Resources. “We are so proud of our team for receiving this award and to be able to offer this caliber of a program to those we serve in Macon County.” “I am extremely proud of the commitment each home visitor, past and present, makes to empowering families and the support they provide as families overcome challenges,” said Bright Start Program Coordinator, Sue Ripley. “We strive every day to provide quality services that will assist families in the areas of child development, maternal health, and family well-being.” “Achieving the highest designation of the Parents as Teachers Quality Endorsement and Improvement Process acknowledges and validates that Bright Start is achieving our goal to deliver quality services.”
