WINTER 2019
As 2018 comes to a close, we reflect gratefully on a successful year and extend our thanks to our customers and shareholders for their support. The Bank ended the third quarter with over $600 million in assets and a record loan portfolio. We were also able to further develop our efforts in consumer lending, booking a record number of Home Equity Lines of Credit and Single-Family Mortgages. We are truly proud of the work of our teams, both in front of clients and behind the scenes, who helped us get here, and we are ready to enter a new year with vision and purpose. We have recently added two new team members who will help lead the charge in 2019. Demetri Snow is a well-known veteran banker in Salinas who has taken on the role of Senior Vice President, Regional President for our Salinas Valley market. Phil Morreale, also a veteran banker, has taken on the role of Managing Director in our San Luis Obispo branch. We are thrilled that these gentlemen have chosen to lend their talents to our organization, and they look forward to providing their expertise in business banking and commercial lending to our clients. Learn more about their backgrounds later in this newsletter. There are some exciting things to look forward to in the new year. In a tribute to the road that leads us throughout the Central Coast, we will be rolling out a new online banking platform called 101. This new platform will introduce you to a seamless design that links personal computers, tablets and mobile devices using a touch identification login. Online bill pay will include a new feature called Picture Pay, allowing you to scan an invoice and have the biller’s information pre-filled for you. Also, business customers will be happy to learn that they will be able to approve ACH and wire transfer transactions through our mobile app. You will receive more information about the upgrade from our cash management team soon. We wish you a great start to the new year. Best regards,

Congratulations to Our Q3 2018 Capital Achiever, Pyong Lewis!
The Bank would like to congratulate Pyong Lewis for receiving the Capital Achiever award for Q3 2018. Capital Achievers are nominated and selected by their coworkers for their contributions to the Bank and their community and the way they display the Bank’s core values.
Pyong has been with 1st Capital Bank for seven years. Her job as a Loan Assistant is to liaison between Relationship Managers and Loan Servicers, preparing loans for documentation and booking. Pyong is a great resource to others based on her wealth of knowledge. She consistently receives accolades from coworkers and is well loved by our clients. Her commitment to quality service is unquestioned, and she is willing to jump in on any task, large or small. Congratulations, Pyong, and thank you for all that you do!
It’s a good idea to change your passwords regularly, and the beginning of the new year is the perfect time to do so. However, finding a password that is both memorable and complex enough to be truly secure is not an easy task. The challenge we all face is that cyber attackers have developed sophisticated and effective methods to crack passwords. This means hackers can compromise your passwords if they are weak or easy to guess. An important step to protect yourself is to use strong passwords. Typically, this is done by creating complex passwords; however, these can be hard to remember, confusing and difficult to type. A good option is to use a passphrase – a series of random words or a sentence. The more characters your passphrase has, the stronger it is. The advantage is that passphrases are much easier to remember and type, but still hard for cyber attackers to hack. What makes these passphrases so strong is not only are they long, but they use capital letters and symbols. (Remember, spaces and punctuation are symbols.) At the same time, these passphrases are also easy to remember and type. Example of a passphrase: Time for tea at 1:23! If the software program you are using will not allow for a space as a special character, just remove the spaces (e.g., Timeforteaat1:23!). Make it fun. Make it secure. Most of all – make it NEW!
