Island Heights celebrated Founder’s Day on July 28th! This year marked the 140th anniversary of the incorporation of the Island Heights Association. The celebration started with a parade marching from the Pavilion at Central and River Avenues and made it’s way to Memorial Field. The Island Heights Grade School Marching Band, led by Carl Brodbeck, staff members and students participated in the parade. Other local participants were the Island Heights Volunteer Fire Company, Central Regional JROTC, Central Regional Band & Color Guard and both the Girl and Boy Scouts all took part in the event.
The Summer of 2018 is quickly coming to an end and the start of school, Wednesday, September 5th is right around the corner! We have been busy around the school this summer with the completion of a few projects that were well needed in our continuing plan on School Beautification! We now have a new sprinkler system in the front and partially the back with a new fence on the perimeter of the back field and playground. The support staff and maintenance staff have been busy getting ready for the new school year.
If you were at the Founder's Day Parade on July 28th you saw most of our students participating whether they were marching with our band, the fire department, scouts or other organizations! It was a great turnout by the town in celebrating Founders Day! I want to thank Sue Cowdrick for her efforts in organizing the day and making sure that the Island Heights Grade School was there in full force!
We are all looking forward to the 2018-2019 school year and continuing our partnership with the town and the many services that are so much appreciated by our students and staff here at the school.
Go Sea Devils!!!

In an effort to reduce paper in our district, we are asking that all parents log on to the Parent Portal before the end of September. The school will send communications mainly through email, Remind, our website, robocalls, and the Parent Portal.
When you initially log in to the Parent Portal, you will be prompted with a series of questions that will be need to be answered before accessing the Portal. Your screen should appear as below.
Please make your way through the prompts and answer all questions. Please make sure we have a current email in our system as this will be our primary means of communicating with you. Please log on often. You will find important information on the Home page of this system.
If you have any questions or just need assistance, please call the front office at (732) 929-1222 or contact Beth Smutz at firstname.lastname@example.org.
On our website, islandheights.k12.nj.us, our Home tab offers up-to-date information about what is going on at IHGS. Please use the Calendar tab for updated information about before/after school activities changes and cancellations. Under our Staff tab, a list of grades will appear. Here you will find our Teacher Pages with individual happenings in the classroom. You will also find a "supply list" for this current school year.
Another form of communicating with our parents, is through Remind. Remind can be used on your phone or on your computer. If you wish to receive text alerts from our front office regarding important events and school information, please follow the directions to the right. Please remember, you need to use the instructions to the right to be in our updated system. Last year's Remind is no longer valid. Keep in mind, your child's teacher may also have their own Remind class as well. Again, please call the front office with any questions!
